Leading 43-39 at the half. More of the same strengths and weaknesses we've seen from previous games this season.

One noteworthy item: UMBC has been really tough at the rim. They've been credited with 4 blocks, 3 of which looked like surefire buckets, and the threat of more blocks made us kick out and shoot more 3s than intended.

Like I said before the game, this is no cakewalk. UMBC are rested and playing very hard while our guys played 2 days ago. Could go either way.

Nice to be up by 4 after shooting 6-16 from 3P! Hoping foul trouble does not kick in 2H, might be a sign of fatigue. Jaelin showing once again that he can create his own offense when necessary, huge asset when the chips are down. I like the energy so far and the shot selection, just need a few more to drop to create some breathing room.

THREE fouls on 3pt shots with 9m left. Tosan goes to the bench with 4 fouls, but that might not be the worst thing since they were taking advantage of his cautiousness.

Elijah Barnes picking up the slack! Wow, what a great job with Tosan in foul trouble.

Finally some separation - 10pt lead with ~4m left. Let's close this out...

Very happy for Barnes...all that work pays off.

Impressive win given the foul situation and the quick turnaround from the Saturday game. Would have been easy to falter when UMBC made their run in the early 2nd half and Tosan picked up his 4th foul, but great to see some perseverance to come out with a nice double digit win.

Really happy to see Elijah play so well, his stretch after Tosan picked up his 4th foul basically won this game. This is a really special group of seniors from top to bottom. There are a lot of good guards in the league, but I feel really good having Ethan and Jaelin heading into the Ivy slate.

Hopefully the break will let Kellman get healthy!

Whew! A messy, but nice win. In the Ivy, there are always gonna be those Saturday games where one team had a much easier time on Friday night. So to see them win against an Ivy-caliber team despite being a step slow is an encouraging sign.

Jaelin, Ethan and Tosan all showed out as expected. But the headline tonight was Elijah Barnes providing the 2nd half spark when everyone else seemed out of gas.

UMBC sure likes those small guards. Remember KJ Maura, 5' 8", 140 lb. on the team that beat #1 seed Virginia in 2018?

Much to his credit, Barnes really stepped off after having several poor games. He dropped out of school last year perhaps to have a moment like he had tonight. All of his teammates speak so highly of him. It looked like in his freshmen year that he was going to contribute in later years but between injuries and poor play, he received limited playing time but he has obviously hung in there.

Tosan needs to be judicious as to picking up fouls as IL coaches will target him. His stat line was still impressive with limited minutes. He really sets up 3 pt shooters exceptionally well as he regularly hits them in their chest with long passes. Spencer in his heyday at such a gift as well with long, bullet passes.

UMBC was better competition than experienced in the last few games but they are obviously not a top 150 team.

I don't pretend to know the technical aspects, but I was pleased with how Tigers always responded to the repeated pushes by UMBC through late 4Q, when they could have wavered.

Throughout the second half I kept thinking “got to get a three-possession lead, if it’s close we’ll lose it somehow, probably via free throws.” The team was holding off UMBC but not asserting its superiority. Then Barnes came in with that great 7-0 punch (on both ends of the floor) and the Retrievers couldn’t recover.

The Tigers are now 141 on KenPom, tops in the league, 59th best on offense.

Two wins with Tosan playing half the game. Lafayette took him out with their bigs and Tosan took himself out with fouls. Very good sign that they showed some depth at the 5 with Barnes. Hooks makes a lot of first year mistakes, but he'll get more chances. Langborg in a little shooting slump but 25 threes in the last two nights covers that up. Allocco is a really tough kid who will help. Wright is putting up POY numbers. We must be prepared for those nights when nobody is hitting. Just hope there aren't many of them. This team doesn't defend well enough to contend in those games. This is not your Old Man's Tiger offense!

Mitch went up-tempo in the past—remember that 100+ score in the postseason years ago?

What’s nice about this year’s offense is the large number of good shooter/driver/passers and the ball and player movement. Rim finishing can be a problem at times, but the low turnover rate with all those passes and assists is refreshing. All those good looks for good shooters make it less likely that everybody goes cold at once.
