Wednesday's game at URI was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns within the URI program.

The teams were unsuccessful in trying to find a makeup date.

Brown is looking to find a replacement team for Wednesday.

Saw some folks mention on Twitter that UMass might be a prime candidate - just had to cancel a game with NJIT, a fellow New England program, and Martin is a Springfield guy, so would be a nice story. Would be nice to get that kind of opponent on the schedule - a mid-major that's probably a little better than us, but still a very winnable game.

UMass would be a great replacement game. It would be good to see Brown add them to future schedules on an annual basis. I suspect UMass would be willing to visit the Pitz and Providence market every other year. It would be an upgrade to the Bears’ schedule and could enhance the programs’ profile, with very reasonable travels costs. And I like playing up the Martin/Springfield angle.

Even if true, it would only be a marginal upgrade, IMHO.

I don't think JB was suggesting dropping URI, but rather adding UMass instead of, perhaps, Salve or J&W.

I agree, Go Green. Almost used “slight upgrade” earlier. But as Martin continues to build the program, it would be a positive switch from Merrimack or Sacred Heart, for example. But for now we’ll see if the schools can find a mutual date in the next few days.

OB, aside from being RI schools, I was surprised to see us schedule both Salve and J&W. Dropping one of those “sure wins” would make sense. But I noticed even large schools playing those types of opponents in their locales. I would never drop the State school with a long tradition. In fact, I was considering a drive to Kingston tonight. RI college hoop expert Kevin McNamara felt it could be considered a toss-up. Oh well.

I understand that Brown and URI we’re unable to find an alternative date.
