I didn't really know how shooting background would impact a shooter, but I did immediately airball a few shots the first times I shot in an NBA arena.

  • SomeGuy Said:
Interesting question as to what really creates home court advantage. I’m not sure how much of it actually derives from the crowd. Only two games, but Penn and Cornell both beat the spread (which seemed to have normal homecourt built in). Penn seems more comfortable at home regardless of crowd. And Princeton in particular strikes me as a tough place to play if you aren’t used to it, just in terms of shooting background, etc.

Because athletic teams are never known to bend the rules to gain an advantage. I've seen more fake injuries during football games the last couple of years than I care to note.

Hint: Every sub rosa reaction to plain incentives is not a "conspiracy." When a teacher gives his or her students the answers to a test on which the teacher and the school will be evaluated, that isn't necessarily a "conspiracy."

Saying coaches are using it as a shield is absurd. It's the schools that mandating the testing, not the coaches. Use your brain, please.

All these people WANT to play basketball.

SRP, as I understand it, these COVID postponements are an NCAA norm - across all leagues. Professional leagues seem to be following the same protocols. How would you recommend it be handled? What would you do? Are you suggesting teams are faking COVID results? Trying to get COVID? What are you imagining?

No one wanted this.

While I am sure you are right that Harvard wants to play, it certainly behooves them not to. There is actually a question as to whether Harvard has enough guys to play even without COVID. They were potentially down to 7 healthy players before all of this stuff. Which is crazy coming from a 17 player roster. They already had no big men, and if they have lost Ledlum, they don’t even have their best player who can play like a big man. If not for COVID, they might have to find JV players to field a team right now. My guess is Princeton would not have agreed to the different date if there was any reason to believe Harvard was messing around.

The healthy teams would benefit from playing now — Princeton, Yale, and Brown. Interestingly, after Harvard, Penn and Cornell are the next most banged up. But both played and won last week.

Folks are behind the curve here. Protocols are being loosened, not tightened, in the last couple of weeks by the NFL, the CDC, etc. Whose safety is being protected by canceling games based on having been near someone with a positive test, while vaccinated and asymptomatic, is not clear at all.

It is clear that if you test more, you will find more positives regardless of actual danger to self or others. Many have noted this, including some unvaccinated professional athletes where the protocol requires that they be tested more often. IMO, they're fools for not getting vaxxed, but the externality argument for these protocols has become tenuous to the point of insubstantiality.

All speculation. You have no idea who and how many actually have COVID and what the league validation process is.

Dartmouth vs Yale is postponed Friday. What’s the conspiracy theory on that one? Or, isn’t there one?

Wow! And I thought Covid was merely a way to win the Ivy League and spread fascism (apparently in that order)

I’m in no way relieved to learn that it’s a biological religious attempt to supersede the Crusades!

You can’t make this crap up!

Technnically, that is "when", not "where": "The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion."

But either way.....

So, the takeaway is that Columbia fans are righteous?

Possibly. Or maybe it means the righteous aren't really terribly bold.

Now if the quote had been "tiger", it would be clear. But no ligers or tigons.

Lions aren't really that bold, and are apparently afraid of tigers:

No nationally televised (ESPN U) Abbey vs. Abby showdown for a few weeks, I guess.
