Columbia will present a different matchup from the last two games — they play two more traditional big men. Seems like a game where Martz/Monroe will be key. We need to win that mismatch.

Yeah, the Lions are a forward oriented bunch. The don't beat you with 3's (aside from Murphy). They live off of inside points and 2nd chances from what I can see.

Martz will have his hands full on the defensive end, likely with Murphy, and hopefully Mosh can handle Nweke and maybe get him in foul trouble. It will be interesting to what how they use Monroe and Spinoso.

Meanwhile, they will certainly clog up the middle on defense and force Penn to beat them from outside. I see Dingle hoisting a bunch of them. Smith too. Maybe Charles will pitch in since all three of them will be difficult matchups for Columbia.

Penn is -14. Seems like too much unless they shoot 40+ from 3.

It also sounds like Princeton had success posting up Columbia’s small guards. So there may be mismatches all over the place in this one.

How those matchups play out is sometimes counterintuitive— for example, I would have expected Slajchert to match up better with Brown’s guards than Cornell’s, and it seemed to go exactly the opposite. But my guess is that Columbia will have trouble with our guards, including trouble with our wings where a bigger Columbia player will have to guard Martz and Williams out to the perimeter. And hopefully Columbia’s use of two guys who aren’t a threat from outside will enable Mosh to help out in the middle. That said, I’m sure Princeton came out last night with matchups they thought they could exploit, and they got kicked around for a half before figuring it out.

My guess is Martz on Harding and Williams on Murphy (Mosh on Nweke, as you suggest). Curious if Martz gets a shot at Nweke despite the width disadvantage, under the theory that Mosh can help out off of Harding. Problem with that, of course, is that the one thing you don’t want to do with Harding is let him get offensive boards.

On paper, Columbia seems tougher to play than they actually have been on the court.

I do expect Williams to do some of that for sure. I also expect a gauntlet of high screens for Dingle who should have a huge night if he hits this 3's like he did last night. Look for Smith to get some corner opportunities as well against a sagging D.

We’ll see. Sounded like Columbia wasn’t doubling much last night. Hard to imagine anyone goes in playing Dingle one-on-one, but I wouldn’t have expected that strategy against Llewelyn and Tosan last night either (Penn has plenty of tape of what happens when you don’t help out against Princeton from 2019 and 2020). If they just try to guard Dingle and Slajchert without helping, well, good luck.

Not a good start.

Down 8-3 and Penn calls time.

Need to toughen up the D.

Down 17-7 at 14:37 mark, TV time out.

Penn getting outplayed at both ends right now.

I think we will find ways to score tonight, but the defense has to be better.

Down 21-13 at the next TV time out mark, with Spinoso to shoot 2.

Clark, Charles and Spinoso giving us a bit of a different look and some offensive opportunities.

Clark becoming more fearless on offense, nice baseline drives as well as up the gut.

Penn also more active on D, creating turnovers.

22-17 Columbia, Penn ball.

Mosh with a 3, but then Jelani fouls the C shooter on a made hoop.

24-20 at the 8 minute mark for C, C shooting 1 after the time out.

Not sure what the issue is but Martz has looked not so good from 3 point land for several games now.

Penn got it to within 1 on a couple of backdoors, but then got sloppy on both ends.

Now 34-28 C, 3:39 to go in the first half.

P definitely having issues with C's height tonight.

Charles has looked good from deep, but has barely seen the ball this half.

Terrible defense and rebounding in half one. Columbia could have 50 points if it could shoot free throws at all.

Was Donahue being sarcastic in his halftime interview? Can he actually be pleased with our shot selection? Horrible, quick 3s are the main reason we’re behind.

Yeah, I'd say Columbia's 9 offensive boards have a lot to do with its 5 point lead.
