Yale apparently has put in combo video boards/scoreboards much like the one they have (although they also have smaller regular boards down by the court, so I think they are using the video a higher percentage of the time than we do.) 8-2 Bulldogs at the first media time out. Looking dreadful on offense again: no flow, and about three or four travels already. Fortunately, Emsbo is not playing well so far, so Yale hasn't capitalized as much as they could have.

17-12 'Dogs at end of 1st. Bit of a run there as Padilla finally makes a couple of shots and Obi has a nice and-1 at the very end of the period. Refereeing wildly divided right now; on the other hand, Penn's been called for at least six walks right now, and it may be eight or ten. On the other hand, two of Yale's best players already have three and two fouls, respectively, while Penn managed to trip someone going to the hole and not get called. They've also put a scoreboard in the scorer's table like they have at Princeton.

29-23 at the media time out in the second. We're starting to make some three's, as Lakstigala has hit a couple and Milliman one, but everytime we get close, they get stagnant and Yale puts a little run together (sound familiar? )

36-30 at half. Good news is Obi is having her best game of the year; most of the way to a double-double already, made a couple of 3's, and has abused Emsbo inside a couple of times. They've also defended Emsbo well inside, double-teaming her frequently, and she's got two fouls now as well. Unfortunately, we still can't move the ball consistently, and Yale's making enough threes to keep Penn from catching up seriously.

Well, Obi giveth and Obi taketh away; three straight turnovers leading to five point by Yale and we're back down by 10. after only two minutes.

43-34 Yale at media time out in 3rd. Emsbo picked up her 3rd, although whether that's a good thing or bad at this point is debatable.

51-37 Yale after 3. This team is just incompetent on offense. Three of Yale's best players have at least three fouls, and we can't get to the basket. Awful.

63-53 final, and it's only that close because Padilla finally got a couple of open shots when it was too late. Four people had four fouls at the end for Yale and we still couldn't get to the basket. Frankly, having not even played either Columbia or Harvard yet, it's not a sure thing we're even going to make the cut this year; we are in serious trouble.

You are in trouble. In addition to not having played Harvard or Columbia yet, you also have to play Yale and Princeton again. It's almost hard to believe that we're not even at the halfway point of the league season and you have virtually no chance of winning the league this year. You'd have to go no worse than 5-1 and need some help to have a shot, slim as it may be, since it's doubtful that both Princeton and Columbia lose three games this year. The worst part, for your team, is that as good a player as Padilla is, she will go through her time at Penn without even getting so much as a sniff of an Ivy Championship. Tonight might be your last hope. Your serious trouble extends beyond this year.

I agree that Penn will not win the regular season title and the trophy will end up at Princeton or Columbia.

A loss tonight will be disappointing for Penn, but I don't think it will be a huge blow to their Ivy Tournament. A win over one of the two top teams, however, would be a big help.

Penn is going to battle with Yale and Harvard for the last 2 spots. Until one of those teams gets a win against Princeton or Columbia, their head-to-head matchups are really important.

So far, there has only been one game within that group and Yale beat Harvard at home. If any of the teams lose on its court, then there is greater reason to worry.

Here's the update for this middle group vs the top 2 and head-to-head among the 3 teams:

vs Princeton (Harvard 0-1, Penn 0-1, Yale 0-0)
vs Columbia (Harvard 0-1, Yale 0-1, Penn 0-0)

1/8/22 Harvard at Yale (Yale 1-0, Harvard 0-1)
1/22/22 Penn at Yale (Yale 2-0, Penn 0-1)
1/29/22 Harvard at Penn
2/5/22 Yale at Harvard
2/12/22 Penn at Harvard
2/18/22 Yale at Penn
