My wife and I will be there. Hoping the much anticipated visit to Charlie's isn't the only highlight of our trip to Boston.

I believe classes resume today. Wonder what Friday's turnout will be? 5PM is a strange starting time, but at least it doesn't interfere with more pressing student social obligations and preferences. First week of the semester so there can't be much academic pressure.

Penn 01-24-22 01:58 PM - Post#334197

I'm starting to get concerned. When Ledlum left the court at the end of the game against Howard it sure looked like there was a chance he had severely injured his knee. I was surprised to see him return to face Brown, but he has now missed the ensuing two weekends. Similarly, Mason Forbes played a few minutes against Brown, looked very rusty, and hasn't dressed since.
At 2-2, there hasn't been much harm done, but that won't last long. We host Penn this weekend and then play at Brown and Yale on back to back days the following weekend. The current roster is gutsy and can shoot 3's in spurts, but the lack of rebounding and any inside offense, and what amounts to a 6 man rotation including 3 first year players (Lesmond, Wocjek and Silverstein) has and will cost us. We're only seeing minutes from 3 players with experience (Kirkwood, Sakota and Catchings) and we don't put anyone over 6'6" on the floor. The second halves against Dartmouth and Cornell were awful. Had Nweke and Murphy been healthy, we could easily be 0-4.
Without Ledlum and Forbes, I fear we could fall to 2-5. Of course, I'm also counting out Ajogbor and Pitcher and wondering about the return of Tretout.
It's been enjoyable to watch the guys scrap and claw, but being realistic, with Princeton (5-0) and Yale (2-1) likely in, we're competing with Penn (4-2), Cornell (2-3) and Brown (2-4) for the final two playoff spots.
On the other hand, no team looks unbeatable. Princeton (5-0) has played 4 at home and beaten Cornell, Brown and Dartmouth by a combined 8 points. Penn (4-2) has played 5 at home, including a loss to Columbia. Yale (2-1) looked awful in its loss at Penn, where it's lack of size was exposed. Brown (2-4) is talented, but has 4 losses and spotty 3 point shooting. Dartmouth (1-4) and Columbia (1-3) can compete against any team, but are digging a holes with their poor W-L records that they might not be talented enough to crawl out of.
As I mentioned over a month ago, Cornell (2-3) is a dark horse. Without Jordan Jones, the Big Red had their game at Princeton won but for a long distance 3 at the buzzer. Against Harvard, Jones returned after missing 6 games and was sluggish in the first half, scoring only 2 FT's. In the second half he led Cornell's impressive victory with 16 second half points. A healthy Cornell will be tough on back to backs due to their deep roster. Oppositely, Yale and Harvard have to make up games with short benches.
Back to my point. If Harvard gets healthy soon, they can beat anyone. For instance, the Crimson lost to KP # 68 Iona (16-3) on the road in OT despite being hammered inside due to the absence of Forbes.
If we don't get Ledlum back soon the tournament will be in jeopardy. If we get Ledlum, Forbes and Tretout back, the bid is in play.
By the way, don't overlook how Penn shut down Swain, holding the league's leading scorer to only 3 baskets. Expect them to try and do the same to Kirkwood whereas Harvard needs to shut down Dingle. Without Ledlum/Forbes, it's hard to put Kirkwood - our best defender - on a PG.

Although no fan of IvyMadness, it would be unfortunate for the league if Harvard does not have representation in March -- men or womens' teams. It might be a lot quieter place at Lavietes, March 11-13 if 3 of the four teams are coming from PA, NJ and NY and the remaining slot coming from New Haven or Providence.
In all likelihood, Harvard will have 1 or 2 teams but you never know. It would seem somewhat wrong if Harvard is not participating this year especially after the cancellation of last year's regular season and IvyMadness.
Based on Lunardi's Bracketology Princeton men are currently #14 seed while majority of other men's IL teams will probably be a #16 seed no matter who else wins IvyMadness. Going to be slim pickings this year regarding IL men and the Big Dance.

Harvard -3.5 to -4.0
Wonder who's dressing for the Crimson?
Last week's freshman laden rotation consisting almost entirely of guards only worked fine for the first half last week, but imploded in the second half at Cornell.

Line doesn’t help on who is dressing. Or maybe it tells you nobody knows.
If Ledlum (and others) are playing, Harvard should be favored by more — maybe significantly. But if the lineup from last week is playing, it probably should be less.

Harvard's history is that you don't know until gametime. So my guess is that the line is predicated on no one knowing.

I'm hearing Forbes and Ajogbor dressed.
Ledlum and Tretout are not.
The troops are starting to return!
Likely rusty though.

Harvard up 12-2.
Forbes looking good (4pts).
Announcers say Ajogbor not playing tonight. Also that Ledlum has been playing hurt much of the season.
Going to be fun if those guys get healthy

It was pretty simple: the teams had almost identical stats, except Penn was 17 of 20 from the line, and we were 11 of 20. We missed the front end of more one-and-ones, too.
The defense tightened up in the second half, but we just can't let one guy beat us like we did with Dingle in that first half.

Most frustrated I've been in a number of years.
We just aren't a very good team. Poor defensively (though we showed flashes), poor shooting, sloppy and awful from the line. Don't deserve to win if you play like that.
That said, would someone please give Steve a T for the number of times he is on the court when play is going on? It's absurd.
