I was surprised to see this news on Verbal Commits: Link
Ok, I now see it’s a grad transfer. My bad.

After this year, Jelani has used up his eligibility.
If there's anything we are unanimous about, it's wishing Jelani well. He's gutted it out at Penn. I'm thrilled to get to see him play this year in the Red and Blue.

Man, watch that video on the verbal commits page of his junior year of HS. So good.
Wishing Jelani success in basketball and beyond.

Who knows, maybe the league will extend the covid policy re grad students and Jelani can stay at Penn another year. Or three. He’s got so much NCAA eligibility left that he could get multiple grad degrees. Heck, if Boeheim wins his challenge, Jelani could have four more years.

But he could play two years elsewhere under the 4 seasons in six year rule? Was 4 in 5 but i think he qualifies for six now?

I believe the “4 in 5” rule doesn’t take injuries into account. So a player can get a medical waiver for seasons missed. There are instances, at least in football, where players have taken 7 years to use their eligibility. Since Jelani missed 3 years due to injury, he conceivably could get 3 more years, I believe. Ivy rules and policies tend to be more stringent about the amount of time a player can spend on campus regardless of injury. So unless the grad rule change is extended, he will be playing elsewhere going forward.
