Bison are a one-point favorite due to the home court.

Davis is really an awful coach when the talent can’t carry him. His use of substitutions is probably the indicator of how out of touch he is with the flow of the game. It’s hard to believe there’s a team worse than Bucknell in the Patriot League but today it’s Lafayette.

Lafayette Game 02-19-22 07:13 PM - Post#336887

I initially liked the commentary from Terry Conrad but it's really awful now. He doesn't add anything of note to the broadcast other than his feelings which are misinformation. Edmonds is shooting 3's at a higher percentage than Funk and he said Edmonds is not the guy you want shooting 3's but Funk is? Funk's percentage is only a little below Edmond's but Andrew Funk is NOT someone I want shooting 3's.
Birdsong is trying to get the official's attention to show them his monitor? Is this for real?
Anyway 7 wins in the books! ????????????

Birdsong saying there is not another 6-21 team that wouid have the heart to take a game into overtime and win with three games left in the season. I cannot take most of his “takes.” He’s often a bumbling fool.
But wow, what a shot by Funk. Glad for the guys they got the win but Bucknell still cannot figure out how to close out games…even tho there was a lot of game remaining.

Funk at this point actually has a slightly better pct on threes than does Edmonds. However I think there is a big difference. Specifically Funk is forced to shoot most of his off the dribble with a defender right on top of him, since he is always the target of the defense - being the only guard/wing who can shoot a long shot off the dribble. Edmonds, in contrast, only shoots wide-open catch-and-shoot threes. In other words, much easier shots.
I think Funk has really upped his game this year - which is good since there is very little talent around him.

I watched the game yesterday and was surprised how empty Sojka was-zero students in the stands. I know the team is awful but what else do the kids have to do on a Saturday afternoon? Is all fan support for the team gone?

Pennsylvania is still in the pandemic phase of the endemic. I think that has a lot to do with attending events if any kind.

The PA case count has plummeted to the same level as last summer.
Embarrassingly, however, Bucknell is still trapped in the mindless mask mandate phase. I know it's not the biggest factor in attendance, but it certainly gives some people a reason to do something else.

I agree with BRW here. Bucknell is trapped in a mindless mask mandate phase. This is concerning because the last thing Bucknell should be is mindless and mindless things work against Bucknell's resilient nature. If a day comes when the applicants don't come or Bucknell becomes out of vogue, it will mean Bucknell has fallen like a house of cards because their one weak spot has been exposed-mindlessness. I want Bucknell to be around a long time, but I'm not so sure anymore. Staunchly resilient things always seem to have a weak spot that makes them crumble, and we need to protect that spot. Covid has not been a friend to Bucknell.

It's probably not a big issue relative to Bucknell's "competition" because most peers have been even more mindless. Think back to last year when half of them remained closed for one or more semesters. And this year, schools such as Holy Cross banned students and most other spectators from all games until very recently.

I didn’t buy masking as a reason many fans, particularly students, are staying away. Student passion for attending basketball games is borderline apathy. I’ve been a season ticket holder for only 16 years, but during that time, student attendance has largely hung on very good Bucknell teams playing big games. For most games that aren’t TV games or big rivalry games when both teams are good, student attendance has been spotty at best but mostly minimal or zero. I think some fans are staying away this year because of Covid more so than masking…but maybe even a bigger reason is the quality of play the last few years. Just my opinion.

Saturday afternoon is actually the biggest party day for Bucknell students, and thus the worst time to have a home game. Even when we were winning PL Championships, Saturday afternoons were minimal in student attendance.
HOWEVER
Students have not shown up all season, so it is clearly not just a conflict of interest issue.

Ok. It’s hard for me as a “Florida Man” to comment. I can only gauge from my family who remain masking everywhere and don’t understand why all of Florida isn’t dead.

Yes, it is a combination of a horrible team, a coaching staff that is terribly anti-fan, and absolutely no recognition/appreciation from the team for those who do turn out. There is much better student support for men's and women soccer, among other sports.

Andrew Funk was named the PL POW today for the third time. Well deserved. He will be really missed next year. I don't see any way the team will be better with him (and maybe others) gone.

Congratulations to Andrew. While I may not have always been the biggest Funk fan, he certainly is the one player on this roster that stands out game after game.

Got an email from Newcomb today containing an updated spectator policy. Most of you probably got it too. At least for indoor events, I can’t see any difference from the current policy - everybody still masks, no concessions, and limited capacity. It did add the restrictions for the indoor track championships at the end of the month.

The policy was also effective on 2-19. I wonder if more fans would have come out to see the thrilling endplay?

It would occur to me that a team/program desperately in need of fan support would try to not disqualify any of those prospective fans, but what do I know
