Today at 2 PM. Senior Day for Andrew Funk (and the team manager).

https://bucknellbison.com/news/2022/2/25/mens-b ask...

Despite the dismal season, I hope a lot of people show up to honor Andrew. He has carried the team on his back this year, and was the only one in his class to stick it out. He has played well despite an inept coaching staff, a poorly conceived offense, and an unbelievably poor defensive scheme.

Despite the Home court advantage, the Bison are underdogs by about seven points. One of the biggest questions today is whether Nathan Davis will again throw a chair, as he did in the Army game Wednesday night.

Besides being a great player, Andrew is a great student. He was recently selected to the Academic All-District team (as was Khalil Spear BTW), which makes him eligible for Academic All-American.

Our possible opening round opponents are Army, Lafayette and Holy Cross.

Per the Bucknell game notes:
"The Bison will be the No. 9 seed with a win, regardless of American's result against Loyola. If the Bison and Eagles both lose, Bucknell would get the 9 seed if Loyola finishes ahead of Army, and American would be the 9 seed if Army finishes ahead of Loyola."

What about our opponent scenarios? It appears the league hasn't published the seeding scenarios as it normally does. It must be part of the league leadership's ongoing quest to make me despise them.

The fact that Boston is the third best offensive rebounding team in the PL makes it difficult for Bucknell to pull the upset. Amazing how poor Bucknell is in several national stat rankings. An abysmal team reflective of abysmal coaching. Yes, Funk prob deserves a better send off.

A good team win for Funk’s last home appearance. Everybody contributed. I really like Edmonds. Xander played a very good game. Timmerman was big…I actually thought the offense flowed better with him on the floor this game. The team limited turnovers, still got killed on the offensive boards but Boston couldn’t capitalize. In a down season, nice way to leave your home court.

Bascoe looked far better today than earlier in the season. Zero turnovers for him, just 7 for the team.

I hope they play well in the tournament. They may be peaking and if they play like this they could win a few. It would be a good end to a tough season.

Three good things today:

1. Only seven turnovers - 10% of possessions. The Bison normally are at 19.2%, which is well below average nationally.

2. Hit 26-32 on free throws. Other than screen, they hit 24 of 26. That’s a great percentage, and they got to the line a lot more than normal.

3. They hit 21-31 on two point attempts - one of their best marks of the year. Other than Rice, they were 20-26 - which is absolutely spectacular albeit unsustainable.

Those three things won the game. Other than that, they were generally the same old Bison. They were crushed on the boards, they let Boston U scored 1.11 points per possession, which is very high, and they forced very few turnovers. Those continuing flaws could very well cost them the next game, when they won’t shoot as well and when they likely will have more turnovers.
