I think that would be a much bigger issue with a different coach. As it is now, I doubt there are any players who would want to stay for a fifth year. Many haven’t even wanted to stay for four years. And many of the ones who left didn’t have great things to say about N D.

As far as who allows a fifth year. Boston university, Lehigh, and American have major grad schools and keep many 5th year players. Loyola‘s grad school is much smaller but they have managed to keep dozens of athletes around for five years. Colgate doesn’t have much of a grad program but they are willing to make exceptions for basketball players.

Kenpom on Twitter: “Last night, Bucknell's season ended thus cementing Andrew Funk's place in history. He grabbed a total of 116 rebounds this season with 0 offensive rebounds. Nobody had previously had more than 70.”

Crazy how someone playing so many minutes didn’t get a single offensive rebound all season.

That's a stat my group of followers has been tracking the last month. And you're right that it is amazing. There are so many ways to stumble into an offensive rebound that it is astonishing a good athlete who works hard didn't get one.

A player can be standing 25 feet from the basket and have three or four players deflect it out towards half court. Even if it is rolling on the ground, whoever picks it up gets an offensive board. Or another way is to have your shot blocked, have it ricochet back into your hands. That too is an offensive rebound, etc.

Funk played 1171 minutes this year, which I'm sure is also a modern record for most minutes without an offensive board.

Great performance by Colgate…a few long cold spells from pulling a major upset. A couple of bad possessions in the last few Mikita also hurt but it was fun to watch.
