Today’s win will hopefully be the turning point to the season.
Our previously guard oriented team looked completely different against KP% 243 Siena in a 69-59 home victory. Crimson fell behind 11-2 before the frontcourt took over.
Okpara 24pts, 10-13 shooting, 8rbs
Ledlum 18pts, 8-11 shooting, 4 steals
Silverstein 13pts, 5-7 shooting, 5 steals
Harvard 1-10 from 3! (Only Okpara made one)
Nelson+Tretout+Sakota+Les mond = 10 points
Siena’s leading scorer, a guard who had scored 20 or 21 in each of 3 games this far held to no field goals and only 2 late FT’s.
Crimson outrebounded only had 4 ORB’s so the frontcourt really earned their points.
Ajogbor still struggling though: 4pts, 1rb

We’ve had a lot of good recruits the last 5 years. Most of them have struggled at the beginning of the season (if they were able to get on the court), driving into charges, turning it over otherwise, and hoping for calls they won’t get at this level. Okpara just had the best early-season game any freshman has had for us in awhile. He looked in control, got to his spots, finished well. Now we know who our (undersized) center is.
The question now is how much Ajogbor can give us, because we’re going to need him to be a contributor. But, in any case, a really positive step today.

Solid performance today after Ledlum got in the game after the non-start. Ledlum and Okpara were both terrific, and Silverstein played 39 minutes and continues to impress in many facets of the game. For someone who had only 2 points, Nelson had a solid two-way game. We survived a 0 point game from Sakota.
Ajogbor missed a few chippies, but I agree it will be important to get some meaningful contribution from him, even if Okpara takes over the role of our leading “big man.” I remain optimistic he will improve greatly with more game experience. The team’s interior defense certainly needs major improvement.
FTs and giving up second chance opportunities continue to be issues. The 1-10 from 3 is also a concern, particularly Lesmond’s continued struggles. Keep expecting him to breakout, but his career college % (freshman-sophomore) is consistently low. Improvement from him will go a long way to bringing this team to its full potential.
