An underwhelming performance after a half. Maybe someone has the scoop as to why Elvin, Xander, and Jake didn’t start.

It was a bad loss, at home against a poor Marist team that had just lost by double digits to Maryland Eastern shore. Based on the past, I would assume that Rice and Edmonds committed some minor rules violation. Not van der Heijden however. He has not started any games this year.

Re: Elvin, Xander, and Jake

Reason they did not start according to Coach Davis is for infractions committed against established team standards. No further details on exactly what, but Davis added that he was already concerned by the team practice Thursday and Friday.

He said that the underwhelming practice sessions carried over unfortunately to the Marist game Saturday; that lots of work needs to be done on his part and on the teams part to reestablish their efforts.

While the game seemed to be played at a level of high intensity, too much of that activity was disorganized by bad passing, bad positioning and even worse shooting, including missed shots in close!

And yes, Screen has had better games. He matched up with their grad, 5th yr. 6' 11" center, a long armed, wiry type, who led the team inside and outside, the latter with some deadly 3pt shots from the left corner all afternoon.

Shortly into the game, Davis inserted the three players into the game, Xander Rice for example, who ended up playing the most minutes of anyone on either bench for the game, including overtime.

All said, the Bison had the game to win with the last two shots and seconds on the clock, with a potential last and winning shot in and out of the basket in regulation time. The overtime simply displayed the deficiencies Bucknell had most of the game.

Screen is going to take his fifth year of eligibility somewhere else, find a real coach, and be a transformed player. Bucknell players seemingly flourish once they leave this coach.

Yes, My bad, Jake has not been starting. Not a good look that a captain and another team leader were held out due to conduct infractions. Also, if the team is practicing poorly that doesn’t look good for coaching or team captains.

But what a poor game. Screen was not having a good game and continues to be unreliable at the free throw line, yet late in the game the offense was still trying to go into him. I get that most games but on this day, it was a poor strategy given the poor results up to that point. We had to leave at the end of regulation and I’m glad we did, that overtime was worse than regulation.

Yes, VDH hasn't been starting, but actually a third player (Motta) was also benched for the first 4:22. In place of the three who were disciplined were Bascoe, Adoh, and Bijiek. That left a mismatched lineup that included three players 6-9 or taller. That group wasn't prepared to defend Marist's smaller but more mobile forwards. Also this was a poor offensive lineup. By the time they got a normal lineup on the floor, the Bison trailed 10-2. Thanks to this slow start, they trailed for almost the entire game. Although we'll never know, you can make a good argument that this disjointed starting lineup cost them the game.

Absolutely allowed Marist to get off to a good start. But they tied it at 10 by the 11:00 mark. The offense was just terrible no matter who was on the court, all game.

Agreed Phillie! Starting lineup fell behind 10-2, but the game was lost due to too many missed layups and overall uninspired offensive play. And as Candyfan accurately pointed out, we had the ball with the shot clock off at games end and could not put it away.

True. But if it weren't' for the bad start, they might have had an eight point lead at that point.

I missed the game, but it sounds like an infraction by the team captain may or may not have cost them the game which they possibly could have won if they hadn't played so dismally. I hope things pan out better next game.
