It seems entirely possible that Big Green WBB will not win another game the rest of this season. The next worse Ivy team - Brown - is much improved from last year, so where would more wins come from? They currently have a NET rating in the bottom 20 of all D1 schools, nearly 100 places below the next worst Ivy.

What happens if last year's worst ever season of 3-23 gets one upped by a 2-25 mark this year?

Then we tell Shibles that the honeymoon is over and that she's got to start showing some real improvements next year.

Maybe Harrity has different ideas, but I can't think of a Dartmouth coach who didn't get at least four years before being let go... Would be happy to be corrected.

Well, Shibles is only the fourth coach since 1974 so, yes, all her predecessors have gotten at least 6 years.

Then again, none of those previous coaches have had such poor results.

I guess the good news is there's really only room to improve.

I was referring to any Dartmouth coach in any sport.

Can't think of anyone who was tossed in less than four years. Just not the way we do things...

Ah, right. Got it.

The Big Green MBB is 50-100 in the McLaughlin era, so your point is well taken: that losing a lot isn't really a deal breaker in Hanover.

Can anyone name any Ivy coach, in any sport, fired before the expiration of his/her initial contract?

Jim Garrett was shown the door by Columbia after a year. Columbia also kicked out two other football coaches before four years for misconduct.

Cornell fired George Siefert (who went onto win the Super Bowl with the Niners). I never heard of any allegations of misconduct against him. He could be the only example where someone was fired in less than four years for not winning enough.

And I should have added the caveat that no Dartmouth HEAD coaches have been let go within four years. I'm aware of at least two Dartmouth assistant football coaches who were asked to leave early for reasons in the same ballpark as Garrett.

I hadn't heard that news.

Usually if a coach leaves right before the season with no explanation, it's probably because of misconduct. At least that's my take...
