Am I crazy or is Cornell getting a lot of benefit of the doubt on fouls on both ends?

One terrible TO after another. Langborg with 4 himself and he got benched by Mitch.

Lacking any sense of urgency, just slopping the ball around. Afraid to get physical on defense.

Cornell getting a lot of iso post-ups with no help on D. And they're D has been pretty aggressive, with the Tigers helping them out some.

That hard-nose defense we saw in the first Ivy 6 games has completely disappeared.

The guys look like they don't want to play tonight. So sluggish and stagnant. Mitch needs to tear into them at halftime - this is unacceptable.

And on a night honoring those all-time great teams, no less.

The plan on D appears to be to hug the three-point line and challenge Cornell to finish one-on-one. So far, the Big Red's scorers are meeting that challenge. Either better one-on-one defense or an adjustment that gambles on letting Cornell take a few more treys will be needed.

On the other end, the thinking and moving both seem a beat slow. Too many turnovers and out of rhythm shots, and the floor doesn't seem spread right when the Cornell half-court traps show up.

On the night that Princeton celebrated one of the greatest eras in Princeton basketball, and brought a ton of former players and coaches back to Jadwin, this team laid an egg in the first half. Ryan is a turnover machine, our guys are not spaced on the floor and the defense has been thoroughly embarrassed by a Cornell team that came ready to play as if their lives depended on it. Other than a nice run of hot shooting early, this has been a terrible disappointment.

Cornell's half court defense is uncanny--seems like they have six guys out there.

Our guys aren't moving on either end.

I've seen this so many times from MH's teams: if we get an early lead due to hot 3pt shooting, our guys start standing around on both ends.

Finally some energy - starting on defense.

Mitch needs to adjust to Ivy refs. They're allowing a lot of grabbing and reaching on defense, but we're still contact-phobic.

The D has picked up a lot this half. The offense, though, still looks out of sorts to me. They need to punish the Big Red's overloads by reversing the ball, either by going around the horn or with a skip pass, then diving to the rim as the defense shifts to recover.

Tosan needs to watch some old Spencer Weisz tape to see how to drive into traffic in the middle from the wing and then pass out to the perimeter.

Austin just seems a great fit for playing Cornell.

I'd like to see Lee attack the rim - he was in the game but didn't drive once.

2nd half 3s are gold. 1st half 3s are fool's gold.

Langborg got fouled on a layup--no call. Raglin travels--no call.

But Ryan really shouldn't let Dolan pick his pocket on his crossover move.

Pretty iffy charge call on Lee. Defender was sliding and not set.

Lee, like all speedy guards, needs to develop a floater. Dingle feasts because of it.

Tigers pull it out with good foul shooting. MH's 200th win.

Cornell must be getting a complex about Princeton. They were up 13 early in the second half. Tiger D really slowed them down after the first 20 minutes.

WHEW.

First half was an embarrassing disaster. After the Yale loss, after the pre-game ceremonies, you'd think they'd come out PUMPED... but nope. They hit a few 3s and took it easy the rest of the half.

Second half was the team that started Ivy play 5-1 despite 4 road games. Smothering, physical D and contributions from our freshmen. Austin and Pierce led the way on defense and Blake Peters saved us on offense with Langborg out of sorts again.

I'm not kidding when I say I hope we never start hot from 3 ever again.

Every damn time we begin 3-3, 4-5, 5-7, we lose our intensity for the rest of the half - if not the rest of the game. I don't want to go 0-8 or anything, but 2-8 is fine with me.

Second half rally leaves us all alone in first.
Teams are often flat after the kind of ceremony
that receded last night's game, but it was great to
see the old guys return. Even stars from the '70s
were back.

The defensive intensity for most of the second half was the difference, and Austin's athleticism gives Princeton an
added dimension.

Tosan again played through all kinds of fouls to get big baskets and
assists. It is rare to see a recognized star get so few calls.

I find Cornell games to be the most entertaining of all the Ivy opponents.

Even though I very much like MH, I had hoped BE would get the job when SJ left.
