A potentially Knowling-less Yale team needs to recover from yet another loss at the Palestra tonight. A win keeps an Ivy championship in Yale's hands and makes qualification for the ILT almost safe, a loss and the last two games become very important.

It's always better to be Knowling-more than Knowling-less.

My early analysis is, if you were wondering "could Princeton get a commentator who's a bigger homer than Noah Savage," I am pleased to report that Mason Hooks fits that bill quite well.

As far as the game is going, Yale isn't shooting well, but they're strong on the boards and are generally playing strong D. Evbuomwan is playing quite well; it seems like Yale is so far perfectly happy to stay closer to the shooters and let Jarvis play 1-on-1 D.

Yale is down 8 at half. That last three hurt how I felt about the first half a fair bit, but Princeton should really be up more than they are. If Yale has a strong second half, I think they'll have a chance to take it (assuming Princeton doesn't shoot 75% from three in the second), but they will need to adjust.

Congrats on the epic comeback. I wish our guys played half as hard as yours.

James Jones simply owns Mitch Henderson. i fully admit that our only hope in the ILT is if we don't have to face you.

This Quaker fan agrees with you. Savage sets a pretty high bar, but yes.

Oh, and now a 3 way tie for the lead!

That win felt very nice. A gritty, hard-fought win without Matt Knowling. John Poulakidas and Bez Mbeng both were phenomenal down the stretch.

And now Yale controls its destiny for the top seed!

(Also, to Mitch Henderson, a quote from John Madden: "The only thing that prevent [offense] does is prevent you from winning."

Another observation: Yale was in a very similar situation at the end of regulation tonight as they were last night. The difference? Bez Mbeng.

Knowling update: he's got a Grade 2 ankle sprain. That sounds more promising than it could've been - hopefully he's able to recover quickly.

I kinda doubt he misses the ILT. I'm sure they'll do what's best for him, but he was up and moving decently well even at the time, and if he missed the Cornell and Brown games, that'd be three weeks of recovery (Feburary 18 was the injury, March 11 is the first game of the tourney).

Maybe I'm just being a cock-eyed optimist, though.

It's tough to say with a high ankle sprain, but coming back from it in basketball is probably harder than in any other sport due to the need to jump and sprint on a hard surface. And unlike Mahomes, I doubt that Yale will shoot him up full of pain killers before the game and again at halftime.

Unfortunately it doesn't work so well in hoops.
Cortisone is great for pain but a grade 2 indicates ligament issues and yea this will take time to plant cut and jump.

I played football w all kinds of sprains but they are just a mess to get over in hoops esp in college. Just hard to be effective.

My guess is he's doubtful for the IL tournament at best.

of course modern medicine has improved and I do agree seeing him stand up and move around without crutches is a hell of a good sign.
We use to ice it and shoot it with cortasone bf the event and just put the grade 3 or severe in a cast.

Now they have better rehab methods for sure.

But grade 2 isn't great according to my wife the ortho
She says kids heal different and don't use my own examples so there is hope?

A childhood friend is an ortho surgeon whose surgical group has a deal to provide services for MSG events, so he’s pulled duty there working as a sideline doc for Knicks/Rangers games and the Big East Tournament in the past. Maybe I should get a secondhand second opinion from him!
