The Black Knights let go of Jimmy Allen after seven seasons and a 98-112 overall record, and 16-15 / 10-8 in 2022-23.
Army characterized it as the school and coach having "mutually agreed to a change in the leadership" of the team.
This could leave Army assistant Jesse Flannery looking for a new home.

This is really strange, as Alan had done a good job there and was a perfect fit. They are unlikely to find anyone as good as him. Perhaps he wanted to contract extension and army was unwilling to do so, but it is a big loss for them.

Agreed. I was very surprised to read the news.

John Feinstein on Twitter:
“Jimmy Allen's firing by Army is more proof that Mike Buddie doesn't know what he's doing.
Army is one of THE toughest jobs in the country and Allen finished in the top half of the PL last five seasons; made PL semis this year. He's also a class act. As opposed to his ex-boss.”

I believe he only had one year left on his contract. And while they did win a game in the PL tourney, I don’t think his relationship with the current team was all that great - witness the angry shouting match on the bench with a player at the game at Bucknell in early February.

Major loss for Army, as Patriot League Rookie of the Year Ethan Roberts entered the portal.
So did freshman Coleton Benson, who attributed his decision to "the unexpected coaching change."

I’m embarrassed I don’t know this, but don’t athletes have commitments at Army, Navy, and Air Force? Or do they kick in after second year?

Army should be embarrassed but I’m certain that not. To terminate the contract of a guy who had that kind of success at a next to impossible job is irresponsible.
