I hadn't heard this story before. Anyone know which "populous Midwestern school" was looking for a MBB coach in March 2010?

I can’t read the article, but I will point out that very shortly after the conclusion of the NCAA tournament that year, Steve was named head coach at Boston College.

For those who can't read it, Donahue claimed that the Tuesday after Cornell's second round victory, he was called by a "populous Midwestern School" that wanted him to fly out immediately for an interview.
Donahue declined, saying that he had to prep the Big Red for the Sweet 16 game.
The (unnamed) school told him that if he didn't come immediately for an interview, he would not get the job.
Donahue replied "then I guess I'm not getting the job."
BC courted him after Cornell's season was done. And the rest is history...

You probably don’t know this but everything was in place for Fran McCaffery to become the head coach of Penn basketball replacing Glenn Miller. I mean - EVERYTHING was in place. Amy Gutmann killed the deal. She thought no Penn coach should command that high a salary.
The rest is history.

If you’re asking about the size of the package she killed I remember it being around $700/750K

I think she maxed out at at close to $5 million by the time she retired.
"David L. Cohen, the trustees board chair and senior executive vice president of Comcast Corp., has long said he considers Gutmann, 69, to be the best college president in the nation. She certainly is one of the highest paid. She earned $3.9 million in total compensation in 2016-17."

I don't understand how everything would have been packaged without Gutman being on board in the first place. It speaks to dysfunction with the athletic department generally at the time. I am not disparaging Gutmann when I say I much preferred Rodin.

I think the HPY jobs are at least as attractive as a mid-tier power 5 position.
HPY provides strong institutional support, their financial aid packages approach scholarships, and they have such strong brand value that parents are willing to pay something for their child to attend vs. pick your mid-tier power 5 school.
Plus the expectation to win / consequences of not winning are so less dire at an Ivy than the revolving door at a mid-tier power 5 school that has aspirations of being an regular elite 8 team, but does not have the institutional commitment of a Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, UNC (who, ironically, are all watching the NCAAs at home). I think Donahue's experience at BC is a great example - but a long list of such examples.
After this year, how many losing seasons can Henderson have at Princeton before anyone pushes Henderson out the door – likely a multiples of what he would have at Providence or Syracuse.
Do I think Amaker would go to Duke if an offer came his way, certainly – but I am sure the memories of Seton Hall & Michigan experiences make him think twice vs. all the support he has at Harvard on the court and off.
Do I think Berube would go to UConn if an offer came her way, certainly. But would she go to Georgetown, a school that has no real history of winning? People get fired from that program on a regular basis. But perhaps Michigan State? One should be able to win at MSU. I think Berube, Griffith & Moore all will have Power 5 offers – but will they be at schools where they can be successful.
I believe Courtney Banghart’s path is the model path … win in the Ivies, wait for a basketball storied program that truly has the institutional support to make the elite 8 to open up, rebuild that program, make your top tier power 5 money. Else continue to dominate the Ivies.

absolutely, and if he is smart he will strike while the iron is hot.

If Henderson has been contacted by any other schools, he appears to be keeping it a secret.
Maybe he's content to stay at Princeton. Or maybe schools are leery of Princeton coaches. Mike Brennan was fired at American a few weeks ago...

Last year a rumor circulated that suggested Berube got an offer from Rutgers that promised a lot more money than she gets at Princeton. Her father, who moved to Princeton, was reportedly upset that she was not interested. Tiger fans were delighted.
