I still struggle to figure out why Rutgers is in the Big 10.
I hate what big time college football has done to the basketball landscape.
You'll be asking the same question soon enough about USC and UCLA.

I wonder if Merrimack monitored this game.
Especially since the FDU coach's comments before the game about being able to beat Purdue bordered on being uncivil.

I was asking that question as soon as the move was announced, and hoping against hope that the deal would somehow unravel.
There's a huge amount of hubris in there, just waiting for the right time to reveal itself.

That win over Arizona really gave them this game. Missouri was a team I think we all thought Princeton could beat. But I don't think Yale or Penn would have gotten here. So the right team won.
Definitely. While Arizona was an absolute nightmare matchup, Mizzou was the ideal "marquee" opponent for us to beat. My big worry was that they'd go "40 minutes of hell" on us to turn us over 20 times... but they mostly went zone. Whoops.

Also, this was the quintessential David vs Goliath matchup. The smallest team in DI, average height of 6 feet 1 inch. against a Purdue team with one of the best players in the country at 7 feet one inch.
It will be a long time before we see another team with the same credentials repeat this result.
1. #16 beats #1 seed (only second time in history)
2. Had to win a play in game of #16 seeds, so even further disadvantaged against Purdue. First time a play-in #16 seed had ever won a game against a #1.
3. Did not win its own conference championship game.
4. Won a grand total of 4 games last year!!
Yeah, I would say this was a highly unusual constellation of circumstances.

The party is over for FDU, but what an incredible effort. I hope Tobin Anderson gets a couple of high major transfers to join him next year.
I guess Princeton will have be THE Cinderella Team and THE Jersey Squad next weekend.

Nope. Nada. Lo. Nein.
But that was one heck of an effort by FDU. UMBC really didn't have a chance in its Round 2 game. FDU, after falling behind early, eventually got back into this one and went toe to toe with FAU until the last couple of minutes.

I felt kinda bad for Florida Atlantic... until they won. They should be a nice story themselves (a perennial C-USA bottom-feeder that finally had a great season), but compared to FDU they might as well have been Duke or Kansas.
The fact that they didn't crumble when the entire arena was cheering madly for FDU was impressive.

The run is over, but what a ride. I never imagined making a Sweet 16 this year and now our returning players have that experience in their back pocket.
I don't expect to make it back next season - Yale and Penn will be favored ahead of us. Maybe Brown too. But the two years after that should be "our time."

Honestly, I thought your guys acquitted themselves quite well last night. They looked like they belonged; but lost to a deeper and, in some ways more skilled team that was prepared and played well. Glad you enjoyed the ride. See you in the fall.

Streamers, Penn should be the favorite to win the league next year. If the Quakers make the tournament, I’ll be rooting for them.
PS I’m old enough to know what “streamers” refers to. In the afterglow of the Tigers’ incredible run, and in a moment of weakness, I admit that Im a big fan of the Palestra.

And now they're in the Final Four! The "giant" is now definitely the cinderella the rest of the way.

I was only able to watch the last 10 minutes or so of play.
There have been so many good games in this tourney. And Nowell, boy is that guy magic, in a losing cause.
I'm loving the fact that only 1 of the 8 remaining teams has ever won a championship before.

K-State got a bit stagnant on offense during the second half. Too much hero ball and not enough player movement and passing.

It is rare to see Gonzaga getting run off the court, but that is what UConn is doing to them. They've been the most dominant team in the tourney so far.

UConn looks like the title favorite right now, but I wonder if they beat St. Mary's without Alex Ducas getting injured in the first half. Ducas was SM's best 3pt shooter and was playing well until then.

Not sure. I mean, they still scored 70 points against the Gaels and against that team it's a significant accomplishment.
