Yes, best of luck. On the one hand, he is going to a school with much worse facilities, no basketball tradition, and not much support. Also, he will be making a lot less money than he made at Bucknell. But on the other hand, he is going to a program where there is a little expectation of success, almost no academic standards, and will play a weaker schedule. Hopefully he has learned something from his failure at Bucknell.
ND’s predecessor at UNH, Bill Herriot, was making a base of $185,000 after 17 years on the job.

It has been reported on the America East message board that both Jamion Christian and Sydney Johnson were offered the job but turned it down due to the low salary and the very small dollar pool available for assistant coaches.

This is not accurate. Given their source is one of the accounts that had George Halcovage being named the next Bison head coach on the day Griffin was hired, it's not a surprise. It's an ugly world out there.

Davis believes the thing that hurt him and the program most was not having 5th year players and having to rely on freshmen. I agree that Bucknell needs to change philosophy regarding 5th year players and begin to offer decent Masters programs…but Davis did not have lineups full of freshmen and sophomores. Best of luck to him and NHU. Better times ahead for Bucknell.

The thing that hurt them the most was bad coaching and poor recruiting the last few years. Also hurting was the fact that Spear, Sotos, Turner, and Ellis transferred out. It's likely that three of those left due to Davis.

Irrespective of opinions on Davis, I am curious when the last time the Bucknell Administration commented on the 5th year issue. Seems straightforward.

I don't think they ever have, although I hear that they may be trying to be more flexible. A big problem is that Bucknell essentially has no grad programs to use for most 5th years - which makes it a much tougher issue than it is for Lehigh, Boston U, American, and Loyola, who all have large grad programs.
Colgate has been able to bring back 5th year players in men's basketball, despite not having any grad programs for them, because it is an opportunity to win another championship plus the players like playing for Langel. But the players who do come back are doing it solely for basketball, not at all for any academic reason.
Note that after next season, this will become a smaller issue since after that point there will be no more players entitle to an extra year due to covid.

So Colgate really is a brand of toothpaste. Whitens and prevents decay.
I’m not sure why the PL would allow them to do that but I guess at least one member school had to be competitive in hoops while the NE of the US shut down.

As long as they're enrolled and taking on at least the minimum required academic load, I don't see a problem with it.
