From the AD
I am writing to share that Adrienne Shibles, Gail Koziara Boudreaux ’82 and Family Head Coach of Women’s Basketball, has stepped down effective today. We are thankful for all of Adrienne’s contributions to the women’s basketball program and we wish her and her family all the best moving forward. We shared this news with the team and the women’s basketball staff this morning. We wanted you to hear this news directly from me, as the press release will go out later this afternoon.
As we embark on a national search for our next head coach, I am confident that we are well-positioned to elevate the women’s basketball program and further cultivate the comprehensive development of our student-athletes – both on and off the court. We will partner with a search firm that has experience in women’s basketball head coach searches, and they will help us build our candidate pool and ensure confidentiality throughout the process. To emphasize the point, the search process will be a confidential one, and you should ignore everything you read or hear that does not come directly from me. The biggest threat to damaging the quality of our candidate pool is a lack of confidentiality, as potential head coach candidates have teams, recruits, donors, and employers to navigate as they pursue our opening.
Every search has its own rhythm, and we are optimistic that we will be able to complete this process in a timely manner. Corinne Heyes ’82, Chair of the Friends of Women’s Basketball, and I have been in close communication on these developments and that will continue throughout the search process.

Wow.
This new AD isn't messing around...
By all accounts, Shibles is a wonderful person. But she was not inspiring confidence that she could get Dartmouth back to its glory days...

Two worst seasons in program history and seemed like there was no light at the end of the tunnel.

Women's Coach Shibles Steps Down 04-18-23 04:01 PM - Post#355796

In theory, the transfer portal swings both ways, and should make a complete rebuild easier for whomever gets this gig next.
Agree that Coach Shibles was delightful, and had a ton of success in D3. But a D3 coach with a D3 staff was a not a recipe for success in the rough and tumble world of D1 recruiting.

Entire Ivy League only gets a handful of inbound transfers annually, so the pool of kids who fit the bill is quite small to start with. Add to that Dartmouth's recent stint in the league cellar and it relying on transfers seems like a long shot.
Brown's rebuild has been done entirely through player development and good recruiting (and coach's courage to sit most juniors and seniors on the bench). And that seems the most realistic road ahead for Big Green. And, man, it seems like it's going to be a long road.
