“Bucknell has landed a commitment from Mercyhurst transfer Pipeloluwa Ajayi.

6’7 sophomore and former Woodstock Academy & RI Elite product who was under-recruited out of prep school during the pandemic.”

Looks very athletic and can dunk…two attributes that weren’t typically displayed by current roster. And only a sophomore. So maybe this is a good pickup?

FWIW, Mercyhurst was a top 20 D2 team. Massey’s combined rankings had them ahead of four PL teams, including Bucknell. He should definitely be good enough to see minutes at PF.

He looks like a very good addition. I’m familiar with the PSAC conference but did not see Mercyhurst play the past few years. It is a top notch D2 conference with schools like West Chester, Indiana of PA, and East Stroudsburg. Typically a fast pace of play in this league!

Ajayi is 6-7 and 230 and looks athletic. Averaged over 6 points and almost 7 rebounds per game last year off the bench. Shot almost 60% from the field.

I looked at his game stats on the Mercyhurst site and he was trending upward with his stats at end of season. Not a good foul shooter so work needed there.

Agree with the above. One correction: he started all 31 games for them this season. Also blocked about two shots per game.

Thanks B137. Did we have anyone last year who averaged 5 rebounds per game?

Ajayi will be a physical presence for us on defense and looks to be an above the rim contributor. I’m assuming he will have 2 years of eligibility with us.

Also I will add here: We could use a shifty PG who can score but our recent offer to Budd Clark was not accepted. He recently committed to Merrimack.

I love his shot-blocks. Here’s a longer highlight reel:

He looks like he should’ve been much more of a major force for a D2 team, even a successful D2 team. N be it sure why he only averaged 6 ppg. But he seems to have ability that is needed on this Bucknell squad.

Some comments to add looking at Ajayi's stats. He only averaged 23 minutes a game, possibly limited by foul trouble as he fouled out of 3 games, but was much better than his freshman year where he had 85 fouls while averaging only 14 min. a game. Also his poor FT shooting probably limited his late game minutes. If he had averaged say 35 minutes per game,.he probably would have been among div. 2's top offensive rebounders and shot blockers in the nation. As to Mr Phillies question above about ppg, I think it is safe to say he is more of a defensive impact player. While he shot 52 to 53 % both years, he only hit 51 percent of his FT shots in 22-23 and 35% in 21-22 and only took 2 3pt shots his entire career. He gets to the FT line a lot, so if he could improve his FT shooting that would help his Off.game a bit.
