She has head coaching experience at two D-1 schools with decent success at both.

I don't think Cimino's a game changer in terms of battling for the top half of the league over the next several years, but she brings credibility to the program and should improve the results.

I found Banghart's quote "The day the job opened, she wanted it" interesting. With St. Francis eliminating all of their athletic programs at the end of 22-23, it's no surprise that Cimino was actively pursuing the position.

With the sudden elimination of St. Francis' programs in late March and the late April dismissal of Shibles, it seems like a fortunate match for both Cimino & Dartmouth.

Ha! I totally forgot about St. Francis ending its athletics program!

I suspect that Cimino should be free (this time) contact any of her former players to see if they want to transfer...

I am intrigued. D1 experience and success. Has turned two programs into winners. Native New Englander who can presumably extol its virtues.

Fwiw, looks like St. Francis' top players have already found new homes.

Great news for the Dartmouth program. To me the elevation of talent level across the Ivy League has been a terrific development for future competitive environment. Cimino brings credibility derived from D1 experience to a kess than ideal recruiting situation. Wish her well from all of us fans of Ivy women's hoops

Banghart also gave a nice shout-out to Cimino on twitter. Pretty obvious that the two are friends.

They had a lot of international players. I would think that bodes well for Cimino's chances of convincing Ariik to come back on the team.

Ariik did lead the team in rebounds...

Clare Meyer has also withdrawn from the portal.

Ariik could be Dartmouth’s most dynamic player quite easily, I think.

Dartmouth is a hard place to leave if you don't have a good reason to do it.

Regardless, the coach clearly had success re-recruiting those on the roster. That's a good omen.

Well this is not great and may explain why Cimino was still available. I don't normally get too worked up about NCAA recruiting violations, since they tend to be bureaucratic nonsense. But stil....

"In December 2020, the NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions issued Cimino a three-game suspension and two-year show-cause order after finding Cimino had 254 impermissible communications and 11 impermissible contacts with three student-athletes from Binghamton, her prior school.

Cimino hadn’t first obtained written permission or authorization through a notification of transfer process to make the contacts, the NCAA infractions panel found.

Cimino made impermissible inducements to the same student-athletes that included buying meals and providing lodging during visits, the panel found. Cimino believed the inducements were allowed because of her “close” preexisting relationship with the former student-athletes and parents, according to the panel.

The two-year show-cause order prohibited Cimino from participating in all recruiting communication contacts and off-campus recruiting for six weeks during the following contact period. St. Francis Brooklyn was placed on two years of probation through December 2022, and its number of women’s basketball scholarships was reduced by 7% during the 2021-22 academic year."

There's more detail to that story in the link I provided in post #3 of this thread.

She was available because StF dropped athletics two months ago and she likely didn't start looking elsewhere until then.

I'll agree that this is a marriage of convenience for both sides. Hopefully things work out. Hard to see how they can get any worse, that's for sure...

Agreed. Looks like she can coach and knows where to go to find a certain level of player.

She literally has nowhere to go but up.

She's been on the job such a short period of time. I'm sure the assistants are being interviewed/hired right now. Everything else will be delayed, for sure.

The recruiting will be the big one, getting 2024 commitments from any sort of quality players is going to be an uphill struggle.

What exactly do you expect to hear about recruits?

The players who are going through their hs graduations this month that Shibles signed are likely not going anywhere for the simple reason that they didn't have anywhere else to go (other than D-III schools).

A bit much to expect news about next year's recruits when the new coach is probably still finding her away around campus...

Should also mention that Dartmouth is not St. John's or Colorado.

We're not going to allow our new head coaches to run off half the team and bring in a bunch of transfers...

It is not realistic for Dartmouth to rebuild through the transfer portal. The restrictions of the school's transfer admissions, not to mention the recent history of the program's failings, make it effectively impossible for the portal to provide more than a player or two.

The only realistic avenue is a bottom-up type rebuild like what Brown has done over the last two years. But that involves getting in a couple good recruiting classes and a willingness to play underclassmen exclusively.

Agree. Though one solid player would help.

Meanwhile, last year's entire coaching staff is now gone from the Dartmouth website.

If Doreen Ariik can return to the team and be healthy I really believe she can be a difference maker.

Cimino certainly has D-1 head coaching experience and has worked her way up through the coaching ranks.

It'll be good if she can get some assistants with D-1 experience. Maybe someone who has spent time in the Ivies or Patriot League would also be helpful.

It seems that she should have known better about the contact with her former Binghamton players, but it also doesn't seem like a major issue that should keep her from being hired. I'm guessing (hoping) she learned her lesson from that experience.

Here's something recent from the Providence Journal:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaabk/f rom-north...

- Cimino was entertaining a handful of her own options when a mutual connection put her in touch with Dartmouth. North Carolina coach Courtney Banghart is a Big Green alum and worked with Cimino on the board of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. Dartmouth athletic director Mike Harrity asked Banghart for some personal recommendations to aid the search firm employed to replace Adrienne Shibles and Cimino was the first name Banghart offered.

“I was in Spain at the time,” Cimino said. “He called me, we had a 30-minute conversation, and about three hours later, I had a Zoom with the search committee.”

Harrity and men’s basketball coach David McLaughlin have helped Cimino settle into her new professional home. Her personal life will be ironed out later in the summer — she’s currently living in a hotel near campus and commuting back to her Brooklyn apartment on the weekends. Multiple days at a time on the road recruiting lessen the immediate need for a permanent home base. -

- “I’ve always been able to do more with less, and I’m in a position now where I have more,” Cimino said. “I have resources. I have a world-class brand institution. I can wear just a letter on my chest and people know where I work and where I coach.” -

Well that explains why she wasn't in her office this weekend.

My twelve-year-old daughter (who loves basketball) and I were hoping to meet and welcome her to the program when we visited the basketball offices.

Glad Ariik got back. She's an impact player out of the gate and could have helped them win games last year, for sure.

5'6" Anna Nelson from Maine, a rising soph who averaged 9.4 minutes per game for the Green last year, has transferred to D2 St. Anselm.

Best of luck to her.

Not to go all sour grapes, but that's probably where she should be playing. Like a lot of her fellow Shibles recruits, it appeared that Dartmouth was her only D-1 offer.
