Best interview w James I have listened too

Talks a bit about the team non specifically.

But notes his greatest challenge is roster management.
Has 17 guys and feels every one could.contribute in the rotation on at least one team

4 starters need more shorts but notes if they run at Cornell's pace that's not enough. Need to be more efficient.

Says offense is ahead of defense.

But similar theme out of the horse's mouth.
Finishes it with this could be one of better teams he's had

Very good interview; I have long considered him the best Ivy coach. Interesting to hear about his early years and his tribute to his father.

Agree. Compelling life story. He was always an underdog including when he coached me.
who is this asst from d3 who did something else for 5 yrs?

Hard to believe we had Steve pikiell and James Jones as assistants at Yale over 4 yr run.
Too bad we also had Kuch running the show

I note he did not mention race until the host brought it up at the end. Surely racism has affected his entire life, and likely still does.

But with regard to the statement that "once there were six Black coaches in the Ivy league", it should be mentioned that the three Princetonians-- JT III, Craig Robinson, and Sydney Johnson, succeeded and move up. So the diminished number is not due to them being fired, for instance.

I think he alluded to this but to restate...
James didn't get another opportunity beyond Yale until he built the program to a point where, valuing security, it made no sense to leave for one of those opportunities.
Sure he could've made more in short term but lot of tradeoffs.
The one exception was St Johns but the job wasn't offered to him.
JT III got georgetown, a step up forgetting his name and how that helped.
Robinson went to the PAC 10
Johnson went to Fairfield. Mistake. James has had those opportunities+

Now James has a lifetime contract of sorts. Makes good money. Lives in on campus housing

But at the end of the day he either didn't get the no brainer job and/or valued security.

be interesting if NIL affects his outlook. He alluded to that.
But so far he is pulling guys like wolf and aletan and getting Casey simmons.
So fine so far to stay near the top consistently w talent

How has he done as a mentor of future coaches?

Any of his players now coaches at some level themselves?
