The only D-1 v. D-1 opening night matchup involving Ivy League teams in which an Ivy team appears to have a noticeable advantage is this one.

The Red return seven of the top eight guys from last year's 17W squad. The last couple years, Coach Earl has favored a nine man rotation and an extremely fast pace. No reason to think that will change.

At this point, the biggest question is which two or three newer guys have earned the first shot at Dolan's minutes.

Roller coaster of a game, with the Big Red prevailing on the road 84-78, overcoming a 5 point halftime deficit.. Good win against a Lehigh team picked to finish second in the Patriot to Colgate. Connor Noard with his best game at Cornell with 15 points (I believe all in the 1st half), and Sean Hansen put the team on his back in the 2nd half.

Biggest surprise was sophomore AK Okereke, a former walk on, getting big minutes and scoring 8 clutch points.

Especially encouraging considering neither Chris Mannon nor Nazir Williams had big games.

Earl's nine man rotation included starters: Manon, Hansen, Gray, Nix and Norad. First line change came three minutes in and was Ragland, Williams, Boothby and Okereke.

Hansen was the MVP, 25 points on outstanding shooting with a handful of rebounds and assists. Scoop mentioned the surprise of Okereke getting big minutes and looking solid. AK only played six minutes last season.

Only Frosh to play was Jake Fiegen, who missed a couple of threes.

I was surprised to see Cooper Noard and DJ Nix in the starting line-up and Williams coming off the bench but Earl can be unconventional. Wondering what is up with Josh Baldwin, who did not play and did not see him on the bench. If he is injured, I hope it is minor as I thought he was the best freshman last season.

Since Baldwin's on the roster you'd have to assume he's injured. Fortunately, depth is not an issue for this team.

Unfortunately Jeff Goodman reported yesterday that Josh Baldwin is out for the season with a knee injury in his Ivy League injury report

That would explain it. Terrible news, but thanks Jungle.
