The team heads out to Spokane on Thursday for a two-game West Coast swing.

Gonzaga last lost a home opener in 1987, I'm told. I think this game is gettable but the margin for error is slim. It's to Yale's advantage that this is Gonzaga's first game with a lot of transfers, though.

i think any game besides kansas is gettable.

but i am more interested in seeing the game within the game. specifically can mbeng play w nembhardt on both ends?
can wolf, townsend and samson battle well against gonzaga's 4 bigs? this is weird bc gonzaga has very different big men and its a real team strength

do knowling and simmons battle well against watson et all?

gonzaga is loaded w talent. you fly to spokane via spokane on thurs which is rough for big guys.
then you turn arnd and go to LMU on saturday..need 1 so csnt lose to gonzaga 2x

and for god sakes charter a plane Vicki Chun. you are getting paid to play

I think the most interesting individual matchup will be at the 4. Gonzaga plays a tough low-post guy in Graham Ike down there. Knowling and Townsend will have their hands full on D, but they'll be a problem for him to guard on the other end.

the inside out bigs huff and cant remember other one scare me.

i wld try to make ike shoot from beyond 4 feet.
easier said than done though given how they spread the floor w 4 out
and nembhardt is an elite driver of the ball

townsend is strong enough to body him
knowling isnt and needs to guard watson

townsend was like a guard in AAU ball
then he doesnt play for essentially 3 yrs

he didnt grow but he got even stronger.

love to see the jumpshot drop to spread the floor and neutralize their stretch bigs

I just read steel venters (sp?) Blew out his knee

Likely doesn't matter much as they have depth tho he did start exhibition. He was big sky player of yr but Yale handled him ok last year
Also listened to a zag podcast and they watch practice and said you cant move IKE down low off block due to his strength and quickness
Anyway zags have lots of ways to beat u and regardless I hope we can put a good foot forward tmrw and Sunday.
They practiced tonight based on insta so hopefully youth offsets the travel and time changr

I saw some bright spots. I saw some warts.

But huff killed them and didn't shoot well enough from 3 when open which was a lot.

Killed us on boards at end but we were demoralized by not making shots.
They played team ball. We went 1 on 1.
Credit to their match ups

The bright spots were Townsend pouli and mbeng

The first half was fun.
We punched them in the mouth. They came back and played really tough defense.
We blew shots to start 2h and played hard defense but got tired.

We have to develop a drive game through the middle.
Mbeng was tough. But he settled for the 3 too much.
Nembhardt pushes it better than any guard in cbb. And the zags just have talent.

Live and learn fast. Next one tough

Gharram also tough. The pg combination is nice.
Wolf and aletan will come around. Trial by fire against real talent.
And zags are experienced despite the bs narrative they have redshirts or free agents.

trick is when on all. I don't love the rebounding so far in 2 games and I think we are driven mentally by offense.

Lastly we have been punished getting back on d. Rotation is what it is. Simmons can be better rebounding. Knowing needs his legs. Etc

Couldn't watch the game, but looking at the box score, it looks like Gonzaga was pretty hot from the floor and Yale wasn't, and Gonzaga owned the boards. Plus Gonzaga got 19 points from a freshman off the bench. It's hard to beat a great team on the road when they play really well, and it looks like that's what happened.

Yea I just watched a piece I missed.
it's an awesome road environment. Not the biggest but up there w all of em.
Students were jeering us in the stretch line.

Cross country flight day before w a connection. Big time change
Gonzaga was prepared. So much respect for Few and his staff.

we were exposed rebounding and defense. Shots come and go but first half shows potential

I watched the game. Yale was impressive. It was a 7 pt game with 13:22 left in the 2nd half. Gonzaga just has too much firepower but what I saw of Yale makes me think the rest of the IL is in trouble. We'll see how Princeton matches up but I don't think the others are that close.

Our talent is not disputed.
But as Harvard and others have shown you can deep quality but low dispersion which is challenging in this sport.
Cohesiveness and improvement are impt.
I think we let our offense affect us in the 2nd half.
Blowing a few contested layups and some open 3s after playing great defense and finishing possessions w a rb.
This is a mental thing and that slipped into poor transition d and bad rebounding.
I also saw some bitching on no calls. And some weak screen hedging and sloppy aggressive play on d jumping passing lanes.
Gonzaga has a ton of talent and we needed to show a better tougher mental make up to deal w it when adverse
That scares me the talent doesn't

Jones usually has the mental stuff dialed in by conference time. That appears to me to be a strength of his as a coach.
