The second leg of the road trip - this one should be a good matchup. Very short turnaround after yet another flight, which will be challenging in its own right.

Like to see the guys more connected on d and the boards. Can't control shot making but this might help the offense too
I do think LMU is tough as is this road trip so process not outcome

If Yale plays as well tonight as they did in Spokane, they should win this game.

So far so decent. LMU hit some crazy shots early but Yale is hanging tough, running good offense, and fighting on the boards.

Huge gutsy win. Mbeng with 28 and great defense. Nice to see on the back half of a big road trip against (theoretically) the third-best team Yale will play all noncon.

most importantly, rebounding picked up.
coach stan has LMU playing tough. still havent seen the best version of Wolf but he got screwed on the late block foul call.

not sure we got a 3 look all 2H.

wait until you see the kid on weber state. he is cold.
the games this weekend will be TOUGH.

Gardner Webb played Baylor tough.
Colgate is always good.
And Weber has the best player you will see until kansas and heakes it all go

Oh and we get them back to back to back.

There u go...Jones and Weber St take down st Mary's ON THE ROAD.

Lillard funds that program. Jones was a terror in AAU. Now he's better. ken pom is likely right on Gonzaga vis a vis.
But he's asleep on Weber. You can't model D Jones. Possible Top 30 pick. Unguardable if he hits the 3 ball

just watched the half I missed.

LMU is tough and well coached but Stan recruitedy nephew and we always liked him. They simply took away one aspect of the game, the 3 ball.

But we made them pay. I was impressed by Bez on Fri against nembhardt who I think is the best pusher of the ball in college.

But I was unfamiliar w LMU guards. Bezs speed and change of direction is so elite. LMU tried to handle him w an LSU and then a Gonzaga transfer. Didn't happen.

The confidence which hurt him at times jumping lanes on the zags was manifested in his offense tonight.
They took away he countered.

Wolf played better against 2 7 footers who are solid. Most importantly we ran some offense through him up top.
He didn't finish great but he really helps the half court.
Townsend was off but he's still a beast.
Knowling is trusting his ankle.

Mahoney didn't have his chances as they denied him. He's been a little off when open but wasn't open tonight.

The d wasn't reflected in the score. I saw better connection and good shot making on both sides.
Rebounding against some grown men was much improved.

Need to take the good and get more out of a few guys next weekend. Tough games ahead

What makes me the most excited right now is that we haven't seen this team play a complete game yet. The defense wasn't great the first two games, rebounding was bad against Gonzaga, Danny is still adjusting to the college pace of play. And despite all of that, they held it close with the Zags for 3/4 of a game and beat a top-hundred team on the road in the Pacific time zone. I mean, jeez, the last time Yale played in LA (with a good group in 18-19!), they had to go to OT with a crappy CSUN team. If/when they get it together, they're going to be a top-fifty team nationally, I think.

based on 3 games i think the ceiling is much higher than the level so far for:
wolf, mahoney, simmons and aletan (played 2/3).
wolf has to stay out of foul trouble. these matchups all include 6 11+ kids who are uncomfortable out of the paint.
he has such much potential setting this offense up in the half court like a 1998 Steve Goodrich at princeton. i saw some of this vs LMU and he made a lot of mistakes too.

i am enamored w samson's athleticism and size but his integration and offensive development will take time.
i cld say the same thing abt Simmons. he is also a special athlete at this level.

james shrunk the rotation to 8 against LMU. now you have 3 in 3 days against elite mid majors.

constant balancing act bt developing/integrating some intriguing pieces for the future. and maximizing the short term.

The LMU announcers commented that their defense tries to switch almost all screens. That and Mahoney foul trouble took away 3-point shots for Yale (only 8 of 55 attempted field goals were from 3). But Mbeng looked completely comfortable playing as a scoring guard and was able to overpower his defender for a number of easy inside baskets.

An eight-man rotation with the three coming off the bench playing ~60 minutes among them could actually get it done night-in-and-night-out.

But...
Does anyone know if Molloy and Basa-Ama are healthy and ready to go? Both, particularly Molloy, contributed last year.
If so, this Yale team will already begin to resemble those of recent seasons, when nine or ten players logged significant minutes in every game.

That would be good news for the League overall, but bad news for teams who think they can challenge the Bulldogs for the top spot.

Basa ama got hurt last yt.
Otherwise he was contributing.

Appears molloy was passed by Townsend and Simmons.

Basa ama fell behind samson although never played against LMU

The test will obv this weekend w all the competitive games

I get the sense James tightened it I'm response to the 2nd half transition d and rebounding effort against the zags tho wolf also was in foul trouble early

I would expect it to drift back to 10ish ultimately
