Tied at 30 at the half, the women lose to Duke by 4 in a very respectable performance. Mostly, Duke won due to their height advantage and interior shooting. Columbia's scoring was less balanced, with Hsu at 25 and Henderson at 15, but no one else above 6.
While it is still early in the season, this is the first game in which you could really see the makings of a very good team.

Duke’s maybe not a title contender, but they’re very good. They have size and a few very athletic players, so I think Griffith would call this game a step in the right direction.
And btw, that Kitty Henderson drive to the hoop with 2:40 left in the game to tie it at 60-all was something to behold. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a player use their left hand like that to avoid the block from the defender. Bravo, Kitty.

Last year’s team would have beaten this duke team going away, I suspect.

Perhaps more accurately, last year's team in March would have beaten this team going away, i.e. who knows how good this team will be in March?
MG said it could be her best team ever by January. Cut her some slack and add a few months before we judge its potential.

A few more notes about last night’s game:
Hsu has stepped up her game and is driving to the hoop more often, and she’s getting very good at it… either to finish herself or dish to her teammates.
Stephens looks like she’s going to be a solid player off the bench. Love the charge she took late in the game to foul out one of Duke’s starters.
Still no minutes from the two newcomers from Spain (Tor & Calvo), the transfer from Maryland (Sciolla) or the two other freshmen (Cooper and Montes)… hope at least one of them gets some PT vs Towson tomorrow night.
