Blake's been hustling so hard on defense that it's hindered his offense. Scott and/or Davis being able to play 15mpg would be huge in that respect.

Vegas should be happy with the 80-66 win. A great job recovering after a sloppy, listless start.
A major advantage to this season's squad? Free-throw shooting. As amazing as Tosan was, he was not a good FT shooter and he shot most of our FTs. This year, we're making hay at the line and it probably saved us today (15-16).
Still, this game is definitely one for the film room. NE got way too many easy baskets at the rim and we kicked out for 3 after almost every offensive rebound instead of attacking the rim. Refs were calling fouls on most layups in traffic (for both teams).
What a game for Xaivian Lee! 30pts?! When's the last time a Tiger did that in regulation?

I wouldn’t call the Tiger’s performance sloppy. For most of the game, I thought they looked pretty crisp on offense. Only 6 turnovers vs. 13 assists. It was one of those games where a lot of Tiger shots rattled in and out or spun off the rim (while the Huskies seemed to have a fair number of shots rattle in.). NE has some really tough players and the Tigers did occasionally get caught napping a little. But I’ll take the 14 point win and move onward. Go Tigers!

Those were their two top scorers going in. About three first-half bunnies were missed, which kept the game closer and less comfortable for Princeton most of the way.
Not too many turnovers, not too many bad shots, lots of ORs. They were bigger all over the lineup but only blocked a few shots. A couple of extra Peters shots that rattled in and out and this would have been very comfortable. Lee was great, Allocc was excellent, and Scott looked pretty good too. Pierce was the keystone and Martini was on-point in his role.

I was at the game, and I thought NE was extremely well coached and well prepared. They stayed at home with their men on D, so Peters was not quite as open as he would like, which opened the lane for Lee and Pierce. Also, Lee hitting his first 3-balls in a row (when will that happen again?) forced tighter perimeter coverage on him.
With just over 2 minutes to play, it was 72-66 and NE had the ball, but threw it away with an unforced turnover. After we scored, they seemed to panic on offense.
The Ivy games are going to be battles.

I thought the defense was sloppy/slow on defending cutters, which led to several easy layups for NE. And that TO at the end of the first half was a bad look, especially after calling a timeout to draw up a play. I was also surprised to see NE grab 9 offensive boards, but they do have good size.
But I agree that NE deserves credit for being really well-prepared and locked-in. I'm proud of the guys for - yet again - being resilient and pulling out the gritty win. It ended up being a 14pt win after all.

My seat was low, behind the Princeton bench, so I could see the cutter when he reached the hoop, but it was difficult to see what was happening on the perimeter on the other side of the court.

I do not agree "defense was sloppy". I was Courtside opposite Toger bench. Henderson was pleased with defense, and gave credit to Northeastern as "well coached and well prepared." He cited the off day on Tgiving as allowing the team only one day to get ready. You can always find plays that don't go your way but I thought the defense was quite good
They certainly work hard together.

My sense on the inbounds play with the turnover at the end of the first half was that the ref spotted the ball several feet farther back from the timeline than the spot where it had gone out of play, and MH was pretty upset about it. I think it screwed up the intended passing angle.

Fair enough - I was too harsh. I guess I just expected them to win this game by 20+ after how good they've looked so far. With only 1 day to prepare, that was a pretty good effort after all.
Thanks for the explanation about the inbounds play. It was a very "huh?" moment for those of us watching on ESPN+.

So they've lost 3 of the last 4 when scored in regulation. Interesting, but it makes sense. Balance is always preferable, especially in a Princeton offense. But Xaivian's 30 saved the day and they ended up winning pretty comfortably. What a recruiting find he was.
Even after Allocco and Martini graduate, we got Pierce, Lee and Peters to keep the good times rolling. Not to mention Deven Austin once he's back.
