KenPom has this game as a toss-up, edge to Vermont. This is one of Yale's last chances to pick up a big win in the non-con. Vermont has no player over 6'7, so you'd expect Danny Wolf to play a big role here.

good news is princeton and IL better than advertised.
bad news is we are disjointed and injured. but ceiling is high.
danny needs to finish and not drift. quicker guys better suited to handle dribble drive.
candidly its how i would guard him

Jeez Louise, a MAJOR ref show in Burlington tonight. Yale gets screwed several times in the last 0.6 to lose by 1. Ruins what would have otherwise been a gritty Yale win.

The missed travel on the inbounds pass was indeed egregious. That should have ended the game and given Yale the W. But what was Mahoney doing at the end???
With 0.6s left, all you need to do is stand around with your hands up. And then he overplayed again on the final 3pt attempt that banked in. Again, just stand in the vicinity with your hands up. Rough ending against a very good Vermont team.
I remain very fearful of Yale come Ivy play, but I fully expected them to be 8-1. Heck, I thought they had a 1-in-3 chance at upsetting Gonzaga. As good as Wolf has looked, it seems to an outsider that EJ Jarvis and Isaiah Kelly are sorely missed.

Didn’t think you could have a more frustrating loss than Penn’s today, but this surpassed it.

Mahoney didn't foul the shooter either. Another awful call, just like the phantom offensive foul. He probably needed to stay beat once he lost Long on the screen, though, but again, an egregious call.

Not calling a travel seems to be appropriate - apparently they changed that rule a few years ago

The fouls were still absolute garbage, especially the offensive one.

Agreed. Much better toughness + defense and found a way to win when the shots weren't falling (yes, yes, they didn't win, but the only lesson to be learned from that is "sometimes refs will steal games from you"). This is starting to look like a team that could win the league. Still some improvements needed, but much better than in Canada.
Also agreed the rest of the league doesn't scare me. Not that they aren't good, just that if this team pulls it together, they still have the horses to be best in the league.

Given Yales recent dominance in the league and against Princeton I can understand your optimism. I have not seen any other league teams in action yet.Cant offer any evaluations, but there are always bumps along the Ivy road. If the Tigers stay healthy and get some bench help we should be able to give the Bulldogs a battle. But there are plenty of reasons why Yale is the clear preseason favorite.

Agreed. Yale has talent, depth, size and experience.
Bugt Princeton had cohesion, and is finding ways to win.
That should be impressing anyone who watches them.

I think it’s Yale or Princeton by a margin. But nothing makes you angrier than losing like this. I mean I feel for Mahoney but you’re a senior. What are you doing? There only one thing you don’t do. It’s painful.

I'm with James on this. Yale right now is not where they need to be come league play. But they're trending in the right direction, and they've got oodles of talent. This makes me think of the 2021-22 season, where Yale had about the worst non-con I can remember before turning around in a big way in the new year.
Princeton has shown me how wrong I was about them pre-season - they're extremely disciplined, cohesive, and getting the most from their talent. If they avoid injuries, they might end the regular season with 3 or fewer losses, which is crazy.

I have confidence that Jones will get Yale’s heads right by the time conference play begins. Even this latest gut wrench might help with that. (Princeton’s current resilience dates back to that horrible come-from-ahead loss to Yale last season. After that the Tigers played much more consistently on every possession on both sides of the ball.)

basically need simmons to find a consistent role but he shld be a solid defensive contributor in conference
appears townsend is finding it now hopefully
otherwise just need to confirm identity on defense and boards but the trend could be our friend w recent datapoints
i like this teams ability to match up with most anyone but this has also been the frustration so far
we'll see

We all gripe about bad calls against our teams, which is understandable, but I don't know that any of our teams has endured this:
