When we got down by 11 I finally gave up … almost. Every time we appeared to be closing the gap, Furman responded. I had thought we only needed a couple of 3s and we would be back in the game. But Furman was having none of it. We had to work hard for every 2 because we weren’t hitting the 3s and yet Furman came out to make sure that any tries would be contested. I kept my iPad handy as I started doing house chores. Only when we somehow closed to 3 did I start to refocus. We then tied it up and I stopped what I was doing. When Allocco got his 3 shot from Pierce’s unbelievable rebound and pass I was stunned and couldn’t get up for about 5 minutes. As Peters shouted last spring, anything is possible!

Yes, how often you see a team trying a last second desperation rebound that is wildly off the mark.
As a reward, next up the Tigers get Drexel, which yesterday beat #18 Villanova.

Yesterday my wife said she preferred to go to Longwood Gardens rather than the basketball game. So of course it was a trip to the Gardens. Tracked the game on my phone on the way home. Caught the last 4 minutes live which was of course an emotional roller coaster. We both yelled when Pierce made his 3-pointer and after that everything evolved almost as if scripted.
I have watched the end of the game several times, and the key play was two Furman players go for a rebound and knock it out of bounds.
Furman is VERY well coached and defended us well.
I wonder if Peters was ever zero for 10 from the three-point line in his life.
Xavian Lee’s box score is very impressive and he had key deflections and recoveries on 50/50 balls.
I seem to recall hearing that the key to defeating the 1-3-1 is to dribble through the initial double team and create an advantage around the basket. I guess Furman had not practiced that. I expect they will next year. And kudos to them for a home-and-home agreement.

Furman had 6 offensive rebounds, Princeton had 12. Furman had 19 turnovers, Princeton had 6. That gave Princeton 19 extra chances to shoot and goes a long way toward explaining how the Tigers could win while shooting 4-31 from 3-point range. 6 of the 19 Furman turnovers were in the last 3 minutes.

That game was just bonkers and the eruption of the crowd at the end was like reliving the joy of Sacramento.
When the Tigers went down by 11 with 14 minutes to play, my wife says “we’ll there’s still plenty of time left,” to which I responded “they just need to hit a couple of threes.” A few minutes later, my wife says “well there’s still plenty of time left,” to which I responded “they really need to hit a couple of threes.” Four minutes left, down 11, my wife asks “do you think there’s enough time left?” To which I answered “only if they can hit a couple of threes.”

Nailed that one, TigerFan. My wife and I grabbed seats next to Derek Jones. I told her before the game no cheering on press row. She said, "I'll Ave to sit on my hands!" When Allocco"s shot went down, neither of us could help it. The response was deafening. By the way the Tigers were outrebounded for the first time this season because we took a lot more shots than did Furman and missed many of them.

I would have liked to have been there. I grew up in Princeton and attended many games in old Dillon gym. Gym capacity was about 2800. When the place was full end— often —the noise was deafening.

Furman may be very well coached but they had a serious brain freeze in the final three minutes. With three timeouts left they never called a one to calm their team down and talk about how they wanted to approach the 1-3-1 the Tigers were throwing at them. They just let the chaos go on.
I thought the biggest moment of the stretch run was Pierce's game tying three. You could just see the relief on everyone's faces when that went in. Seeing a shot finally go down, seemed like it took all the pressure off and erased the frustration the Tigers were experiencing. Even though Furman came right-down and scored again to retake the lead I sensed the Tigers knew this was their game now. Can't put into words how huge that O board and kick out to Allocco was that became the winner.

This team has a Brad Stevens era Butler energy. They can win close games in ugly fashion... but it's not luck. They have that extra "will to win" when shots aren't falling and can force their opponent to make mistakes under pressure.
Of course the Ivy season is a brand new ballgame so we're gonna need our 3pt shooting back (I'd settle for Peters shooting 33%). But I'm even more excited for the Drexel and St. Joe's games next week. Win both and we're looking at a Top 25 ranking.

They are definitely playing with an urgency and intensity that is at a different level. The core that returned from the Sweet Sixteen run knows what it takes to win and they are bringing that energy every game from the opening tip. You see that tenacity and physical play most clearly on 50-50 balls and on the defensive end. I also think that Matt Allocco’s leadership has a lot to do with the “will to win” culture of this year’s Tiger team. He is a force of nature.
