Yale has a matinee road match-up on Saturday with Harvard, who finally looks like they're getting all the way healthy. Last game, Harvard pulled off a big win, but they still showed the maddeningly inconsistent offense that they've had all year. (If Penn hadn't given Lesmond so many wide open 3s in that game, maybe it goes differently.) Defense will be critical to winning this game; Harvard can't score easily and the ball has a tendency to stick in people's hands.

my fear is they have several explosive one on one scorers and kick out 3 specialist. and size
so they matchup well to yale

they have several guys who are tremendous 1 on 1 players which tests defensive concepts and makes it a tough matchup on paper bc they also have size athleticism and its a rivalry game.
this typically leads to collase in the d.
if your team m-o is rebounding then you dont want to give up inside positioning even in the high screen game.
this can happen switching ball screens but as noted soft hedging has consequences also.

Fantastic shooting by August and John in the second half leads to a third road win for Yale. Everything tightened up in the second half, as has been the pattern this year.
Next game is against a freshly humiliated Princeton team who should be eager to redeem themselves.

the snipers came out.
but absent that harvard did a great job taking away what i thought they would.
still were even on boards until they broke down in 2h.
the extra pass to combat the ball pressure really helped.
but so does knocking down the deep ball. the difference bf the rebound onslaught at end.
i do think yale got a bad whistle on mack etc

Jeez that's for sure. Reffing was very one-sided this game until about the end. Mack has that Aiken-esque elite body control that makes him so good at creating contact and drawing fouls. Fortunately, Harvard's non-shooters missed a ton of shots and Mack seemed more interested in trying to get to the line than hitting shots.

Random observation: this Friday will be the single most difficult game (per KenPom) that Princeton has played all year. Which honestly is kind of a withering critique of Princeton's scheduling. Not sure why Mitch only wanted to play meh mid-majors on the eastern seaboard, but there you go.

In Mitch's defense, I think he's been pretty open about how few of the "big" teams wanted to schedule Princeton after their Sweet 16 run: https://www.trentonian.com/2023/10/19/the-art-of -s...
They still got Kenpom Tier B games against Rutgers, Duquesne, and St. Joe's. Granted those games may not look quite as good now, given the way those teams have struggled in conference play. Still, as much as this may ring hollow, given James' documented complaints about scheduling and your schedule this year, I imagine Mitch would've taken games against the big guys if they were on offer.

yale schedules 1-2 a year it seems but they travel to do it. its a good policy.
they are often but not always scheduled 2 years in advance.
james' comments more about local schools in CT. Slickman former associate AD at yale has forced fairfield to play yale and ironically they picked us off this year in year 2 of series
quinnipiac-yale also likely a recurring reality now.
but travelling out of region to play the big guns also shld continue. the philosophy is simple- play the big boys in an uncomfortable environment to prepare for any hostility in league.
whether this works or not remains to be seen amd i guess you cld say that each year they have done it

also never been a huge issue but yale has never made the sweet 16 so who knows if that makes a difference.
appears the state of texas is next on the agenda
