While the men's team's descent in the cellar may be garnering all the attention, it's worth noticing the women's squad is currently out of the Ivy top 4 with only 4 games to play. Saturday's last second loss to Brown was a crusher and subtracting their two wins over D3 programs the Penn women stand at 9-11 on the season.

This is decidedly mediocre team that turns the ball over a lot, scores mostly in isolation, and goes through long periods of low energy play and being out hustled. Not making the Ivy tournament would seem like a pretty big failure.

I agree with CM.

They had winnable games vs Yale and at Brown, which would have given them the fourth spot for the ILT.

Unless they can upset Harvard or Princeton, it's likely they will miss the ILT for the 2nd time in the last 3 years. (If Yale's Camilla Emsbo didn't miss last year to injury, it's possible Penn would have missed out on that tournament.)

Princeton, Columbia and Harvard show no signs of letting up and Brown is improving.

Yale is an unknown, but things haven't looked great and there hasn't been any news on improved recruiting. Dartmouth is certainly better with its new coach, but it's unclear how much they will ultimately improve.

Cornell will remain in the bottom part of the conference as long as their long-time coach is still in charge.

Penn is losing ground in the IL even with outstanding players (Padilla, Obi, Gayle) and transfers.

It seems clear that the AD needs to take a serious look at both MBB and WBB after the season ends.

Gayle is for sure going to win Ivy rookie of the year, but many of her weekly ROY wins have come when the team has lost. And this seems likes a pattern with the WBB team - a high priority on individuals getting accolades while the team is so-so/mediocre. For me this is 100% on the coaching.

Yale and Brown do not have the talent to beat Penn but they played harder and with more spirit. Penn's games are punctuated by stretches of jogging up and down the floor, complaining to the refs, letting their shoulders slump, and balky offense. Compare that to Princeton and Columbia squads that play hard as hell every game...
