It's fun to watch the videos coming out of the Columbia Women's Basketball Team's Twitter Account. Obviously everyone in the Women's Program is very excited and anxious to take on Vanderbilt tomorrow night and then 5th ranked Baylor, Friday night. Vanderbilt has a huge height advantage over the Lions, but Columbia is going to be well rested and ready to run, run, run, Good Luck to the Lions!!!!

ESPN has this as a virtual coin flip, Columbia favored by 1.5.

The Tennessee papers are much more dismissive. They predict a 60-52 Vanderbilt victory, mostly because their guards are supposed to be good defensively, and they do have a height advantage.

But their most prolific scorer only averages 13 ppg, and if we outrun them, we could emerge with a very satisfying show me victory.

When you play a much taller opponent, you usually have two options "Local" or "Express." In Columbia's case we know, the Lions will be taking the Express. It should be a fun game. Go Lions!

Vanderbilt may be bigger but we are not small. And our best player has an uncanny ability to gather rebounds.

ESPN’s Charlie Creme predicts a Vanderbilt victory, 54-46… is the Vandy defense that good? We’re about to find out.

36-26 Vandy at the half. Vanderbilt’s bigs are having their way down low and their quickness on the perimeter is creating a lot of Lion turnovers.

Will Griffith go to a zone defense in the 2nd half? Abbey will need to get hot also for Columbia to get back into this.

Not looking very promising at the half. They need to create more turnovers or otherwise have more open court chances to have a shot (and then not get blocked when a rare opportunity of that kind presents itself).

Lost by 4, 72-68; Kitty kept us in the game with 20; Abbey unfortunately had her worst game of the year.

Indeed, a disappointing end to Abbey's great career... she had some decent looks, but couldn't get it going. After making her first two 3-pt shots of the night, she finished 0 for 9. She even looked shaky inside the paint and shot 3 for 14 from the field for 13 points.

The Henderson sisters had a terrific 2nd half... Kitty finished with 9 rebs to go along with her 20 points. She did commit 7 TOs, but looked steady in the 2nd half when (for some odd reason), Vandy took the defensive pressure off of Kitty.

But the difference in the game imo was Sacha Washington... she went 8 for 9 from the field and grabbed 15 rebounds. The Lions had no answer for her inside.

Lions proved they deserved to be in the tourney, but this was a very winnable game and I'm really puzzled by some of the coaching decisions.

Can someone explain why Columbia did not even attempt to play a zone? Vandy had only one player (Moore) who could shoot.

Also why would you ever let Washington go one on one in the low post. At least run a double team with anyone not defending Moore.

Finally, the decision to not foul down four with 50 seconds left made no sense. Vandy was mediocre from the line. But Columbia let them run almost 30 secs off the clock and then left Moore alone for the game winning three. Even if Moore misses that shot, Vandy would have had a very good chance of getting the offensive rebound with Columbia scrambling.

I guess Megan should have exchanged her ChapStick for Glu-Stik prior to making those comments about how bad the SEC is. She's now lost three games to those bad SEC teams.

Don't get me started. My only guess is that Griffith rarely practices the zone. I watched most of Columbia's games this season, and don't recall seeing it. If there was ever a need for it, tonight was the night.

If Columbia goes zone you run a good chance of Vandy's Moore shooting 8-14 instead of only 4-7 and they lose by more. Not to mention Vandy had a 6'4" wing that shot 3-3 from deep, a zone buster if I've ever seen it.

Ultimately Vandy was a more physically talented team, but coach Griffith had her squad ready to go and had Hsu not had a cold night that game would have been theirs for the winning. All credit to coach and her players for coming prepared and playing a very spirited game. I will miss watching Hsu, she's been a great player for this league.

I have to wonder if Hsu was 100%. But let’s not diss Megan for her in game management. Of course with an average Hsu game we likely would have walked out with the win. But for whatever reason in both the ILT championship game and last night she just didn’t have good games. Those things happen, so let’s just thank her for a great career, a great season, and a great ambassadorship for Columbia WBB.

CM's comments on last night's game square entirely with my mine, particularly his thoughtful remarks in the second paragraph regarding Vanderbilt's physical superiority, Coach G having her team ready to play and the gratitude we all feel to Abbey Hsu for allowing us to share her great court skills with us the last several years. I, we, everyone will miss her. Thank you Abbey!

Sorry that the Lions didn’t pull it out tonight. But, they showed that they deserved the bid. The Ivy women grow stronger every year. The Lions will, I am certain, be back.

And good luck to the tigers, IMHO the best all around and best prepared team that we faced all year.
