A nice start to 2025.

Oh - and if anyone cares - Malik Mack just entered the portal.

Well, if that vaunted Harvard degree isn't worth giving up the money, expect every school to be affected.

You beat me to it. This has been going on for a while in the IL, but it seems as though policies only change when H-Y-P (in that order) decide that they need to institute something.

Watch when this happens to Princeton--and it will (and if doesn't, that is a major reflection on the skewed socioeconomic characteristics of its pool). They'll feel like it's the end of the world.

Mack is now ranked first on the Athletic transfer portal rankings. Georgetown and other DC schools in the mix. Note also that Georgetown got Jelani Williams' little brother.

It does seem that the combination of a school with good academics and significant NIL money is going to lure lots of top Ivy young players now. Perkins is probably more in that category than dissatisfaction with the program most likely.

I'm not sure that this is a strictly either/or proposition.

It does not have to be. The allure of a good education and good money is pretty powerful. There is just not much evidence that the state of the program is the issue here (there is much more grumbling on this board). I don't think Mack is dissatisfied with Harvard really either. Harvard is better lined up for the future than Penn is arguably.

I am not in love with the state of the program either as SD just has not been a good recruiter. Whether that rises to the level of replacing him is another question entirely as the program is not a disaster and has had its share of bad luck (Dingle transferring was really more about the NIL money than anything else).

Without NIL money Ivy league basketball in general will suffer. The league improved when the bottom 6 schools got better and they also had the advantage of just about every kid staying 4 years. Now NIL money is changing the equation as we were able to make up for the lack of athletic scholorships with need-based aid. But if a kid can get $300K on top of that and still go to a good school they should probably take that deal.

This is great news. Right now, we have the best recruiting class in the league for 2025. Ok, so we have the only recruiting class. But this is a good get.

The New England Recruiting Report (NERR) posted a very nice article about Jay Jones and his decision to commit to Penn.
