Surprised he didn't go with Ohio State. Hope he leads ND back to the tourney.

Not going to be easy to root for ND, but I hope Allocco has a great year there.

Derek Sangster in the portal. He was a solid midmajor recruit, but with Deven Austin returning and Malik Abdullahi coming in, I can't imagine he would have been in the rotation next season. Like Duncan and Scott, I don't blame him for seeking a better fit.

This is now a lot of depth going out the door. Sure, Austin is back. But even with him, the team is down to 9 returning players, and that includes Gakwasi and Byriel, who seem unlikely to be rotation guys at this point. I’m sure the incoming guys are good, but Sangster was supposed to be one of those good incoming guys just last year. It seems to me that the roster is getting surprisingly thin, to where an injury could be a real problem. And this all assumes Lee is back.

Entering the portal doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t come back. We need to wait and see

Cannot argue with this.

Fair enough. On one hand, no Ivy player I can think of ever came back after entering the portal (insert Gloger joke). But we never had a year where 10 undergrads entered the portal before. Obviously these are different times with different dynamics.

If I had to guess, Scott and Sangster are most likely to leave. They’ll get offers. Collins and Duncan might not find greener pastures.

Well this just got interesting.

Jack Scott to William and Mary, joining Brian Earl.

Not bad. I wish him well. I wonder whether Brian attempted to get him at Cornell.

As for the other three, they may struggle to find a worthwhile match to offset leaving Princeton.

Slightly off topic but I was interested in the recent hire of Princeton's new men's hockey coach. Princeton has always been a middle of the pack team in the ECAC and on the southern fringe of real hockey country. So they hire Ben Syer, the longtime "associate head coach" from Cornell, a long-time hockey power. Isn't that the exact mirror image of Cornell's 2016 hire of Brian Earl, longtime "associate head coach" at Princeton? Turnabout is fair play. Maybe after a few years, Syer will head off to some mid-major school in Virginia.

This is a very disappointing and puzzling development. Jack Scott was going to be a major cog in the Princeton rotation next year. And although he will play in a familiar system he may not get a lot more court time given the hockey-shift substitutions favored by Coach Earl.

Hard to see how the grass could be greener at W&M for the son of two Tiger hoopsters but I wish him well and will follow his season next year.

Seems like a good fit for him. I for one am very sorry to see him leave; he was a good defender and rebounder, and I think with more PT will be a good shooter.

Makes perfect sense. Give up your position as a solid rotation player with increasing minutes for Princeton, a perennial challenger for the Ivy championship and frequent NCAA tournament darling for a chance to play for a team that finished 10-23, 13th in the CAA, has a brand new coach and has never gone to the tournament. Fine school but I don’t get it.

If you're good enough to be a D-I player, you truly believe that you're capable of being a star(ter) somewhere. And for a team like W&M, Scott could realistically end up starting. That's very unlikely to happen at Princeton.

When Mitch said he was going to sit down with the team and discuss goals for next season, I'm sure he spoke to players about their roles. Collins, Duncan, Scott... they wanted more. Which is totally fine.

Provided Lee comes back as planned, our core remains intact and I'm super-excited about this incoming class (especially Stanton, Abdullahi and Happy).

I'm very excited about next year, too. I just don't get Scott's move. As Tiger81 posted, if Earl tries the platoon approach in his first year at W&M, Jack may not end up with more minutes than he would have had at Princeton.

True, though he might not use the same system. Taking a quick glance at W&M's Verbal Commits page, it looks like they're bringing back several double-digit scorers. BE might have a more normal rotation in mind.

Scott was probably the most touted recruit in his Princeton class.
He probably expecte4d to start by now.
He was a valuable contributor, and I think we will
miss him, but I can't begrudge him looking for a bigger role.

I have no evidence one way or another, but let's not dismiss the possibility he simply wasn't comfortable in NJ, notwithstanding the lineage. Not unusual for kids to follow their parents before realizing their interests are different.
