What is the possible benefit of this? Look good to who?
Past year 2nd rounders like Sasser shining in SL makes them look good to other GMs - setting up possible trades. Sasser showed promise as a rookie, but he's not untouchable. Letting him play against inferior competition will showcase him to other teams.
Anyway, Tosan is not in Vegas watching games with Cade and Ausar by accident. He didn't buy a ticket and happen to end up sitting next to them. He's clearly there "with the team." I don't think this means he's necessarily on the roster next year. But it's clear that the team still wants him in their system for now. That could change.
Why isn't he playing? Like you said, maybe he has a minor injury. Or maybe the Piston simply don't need him to see him play against SL competition. All we know for sure is that the Pistons' other two-way players and fringe guys had their rights renounced... but not Tosan.

"with the team"? What's he supposed to do? he isn't cut and he isn't playing. He has to show up and support the organization in Vegas. What would it say if he wasn't there? Cade Cunningham has a guaranteed contract. He can no show and will be starting next year no matter what. Tosan is far from a guarantee.
An injury is the only thing that makes sense given the context. Either way, it's not a good sign for Tosan that he is not playing for the summer league team. He isn't, by any measure, a lock with a new staff. He is a fringe player at best and every player in that situation is better off playing than sitting. Every other player on that summer league team is playing to impress the coaches/GM and get a 2 way contract or a G league invite. They are all after Tosan's job. Its not like he was a star last year and can sit back because he is secure.
Look, I hope he makes the team or the G league. He has shown promise. The facts are pretty obvious. He is either hurt or he isn't a priority.

If the new GM and HC had no interest in him they would have cut him - like they did with his fellow fringe/two-way players. But they didn't (for now). So that's all we know for sure.
I will agree that it's possible he has a minor injury/soreness. He was working out with a Cruise assistant so I assumed he's healthy, but maybe those were just light shooting drills.

Agree. That's why I think it has to be some kind of injury. They likely want him to play in Vegas to see where he is. The fact he can't/isn't is a negative I think.

PennFan, there really is no end to your obsession with Princeton, is there? Coming on here during the summer doldrums to disparage Tosan? Please find yourself a program.

Friday night Matt Morgan scored 36 points on 11 for 11 shooting, including 7 for 7 from 3, in just over 22 minutes for Charlotte vs. Portland in Las Vegas. Yesterday he signed a contract with Virtus Bologna of the top Italian league; perhaps he has an out clause if he’s offered an NBA deal.
