63-51 Duke after 3 quarters. The Blue Devils been dominating on the offensive glass. Mia Broom with her first minutes of the season and she looks good… 4 pts and a nice assist. Kitty leads the Lions with 18.

But 77-61 final, and not much help from anyone else.

It's going to be tight in the IL. Right now, both Harvard and Princeton, despite the loss of St. Rose, look better than we do. We have some work to do if we're going to be in the mix.

Agreed… I haven’t seen Harvard play, but they’ve had excellent results thus far including roads wins vs Indiana and St John’s.

The silver lining for the Lions is the emergence of Broom. From what I saw today, she’ll be a nice contributor off the bench this season… and will likely slide into the starting lineup next season.

If Fliss comes back soon, the Lions will be in great shape moving forward. I like their bench of Page, Broom, Avjilas, Arrebola, and Simmons.

Agree that there is much work to be done if we are going to defeat Harvard and Princeton. Duke exposed our weaknesses, but does any Columbia fan doubt that Coach G will do the necessary? Duke is a very good team so there is no need to panic. Today we were outclassed, but there is no denying that we have a very talented team. More than that, the loss might have been a blessing in disguise for numerous reasons not only because of the early December exposure of our weaknesses, but also we had our first chance to see Mia Broom on the court. Mia looks like the second coming of Kitty Henderson--super talented, athletic and smart. Welcome Mia to Columbia Women's Basketball!!!

Besides the absence of other contributors, the lack of an inside presence should also be noted. Paige and Raifu can usually contain centers up to 6'1", but get killed inside when their opponents have someone who is 6'4" and mobile. One day, perhaps MG will recruit someone of that caliber. In the meantime, we are always at risk when we face teams with centers of that size.

Agree with your perceptions. This is a problem that obviously needs solving sooner rather than later. What is the status of Marta Jama, the 6'2" freshman center from Eastern Europe? Also, Fliss Henderson?
