Although the guy was a helluva coach at Drexel (6 20-win seasons at Drexel in 8 years), he never had a winning season in 6 at East Carolina. Which goes to the basic question, "Why would a Northeast guy with a track record take a job at a low mid-major with no winning tradition such as East Carolina?" Put this one in the Bad Career Move category. This guy would be a good pickup for an Ivy looking to take a step up....although I don't see any likely firings this year.

While not a power, East Caroline is still in Conference USA, a high-major conference.

maybe he can coach Columbia's women 02-23-05 08:12 PM - Post#4887

Though based on last weekend at least, I like what Coach Verdi is doing.
It's interesting what P38 said about how there are no likely firings this year. Certainly Princeton, Brown, and Columbia are underachieving, but even if they lose all the rest of their games, none of those coaches are likely to be fired--Jones and Scott because they're so new and Miller because he has a solid record of success behind him.
Similarly, no coach is doing well enough to jump to another school except Dunphy, and he's not going anywhere. So it looks like a pretty quiet off-season on this board. Will we be reduced to speculating about women's coaching moves? Better that than endless discussions of OPS and WHIP.

We can always talk about Mark DeRosa.
